The article is about China’s milk products. China commands all milk powder and liquid milk produced before September 14 to be tested. The milk products will only be sold when they have past the quality tests. This has been done to take away the worries over the quality of the goods and restore customer confidence. The authority in China has blamed dairy providers for putting industrial chemical melamine into the milk products to make it appear rich in protein. A Hong Kong boy developed 2 kidney stones after consuming the milk.
My thought was that the Chinese were not being very careful with the quality of the milk products. I thought the authority wasn’t being very alert and let the milk crisis happen. In general, I thought the article was very descriptive. I am now enlightened of a crisis that is happening in China.
My prediction is that the authority in China will find out that the milk was contaminated with melamine by the dairy sellers. The dairy supplier will be dealt with by the Chinese. I think the melamine contaminated milk will be replaced by the non melamine contaminated milk and will be selling as soon as possible.

This article was about resolution talks about the former conflict in Georgia. Talks did not work the way it was planned, therefore the entire committee agreed to suspend talks until November. These talks were held by the European Union and the UN in order to come up with a resolution that favors both Russia and Georgia. However, the Russian delegate was late to the talks and the Georgian delegate left early. The main topic was to adress the issues of "compliance with the cease-fire, security issues, and the return of internally displaced persons and human rights".
My opinion on this is that both nations need to calm down and cooperate with one another in order to solve this problem at hand. I think the problem with the delegates arriving late and leaving early is inexcusable and should not be tolerated. However, these talks could work if both sides cooperated with one another.
I think that the outcome of this will be both nations agreeing on a solution that is not very planned out and the nations will find loopholes to violate the terms stated. However, if the resolution created is well thought out and has no loopholes, I believe that both nations will tough it out and deal with the sanctions placed upon them.

This article is about how hand washing can save millions of lives. More than 120 million children of more than 70 countries are participating in the first U.N. Global Hand Washing Day. They've discovered that diarrhea kills almost two million children every year. About 500,000 of these deaths occur in West and Central Africa. By washing the hands we can save 50 percent of the number of children that die every year before the age of five. Hand washing is an essential part of good sanitation, washing hands with soap and water is the most cost-effective way of preventing disease for everyone in the world.
My thoughts on this article was very interesting because the UN has been involved to take care of all the children around the world. This is a really great way to take action on making the world cleaner place to be. To all the children around the world they can learn how to stay sanitized and clean so no many diseases occur.
My prediction on this event will become a worldwide day and will help many to know that being clean is a good thing to do. The U.N. will also create some other days to help people be better in their life and help them.

This article was about the last and final debate on the presidential election between Obama and McCain. It's going to occur on Wednesday, and McCain and Obama have been preparing for it because it's the third and final one. They were talking about how Obama is ahead by some point and McCain needs to step it up to win this election. Obama is a democrat and is McCain is a republican just like our president George Bush. The explained that McCain proposed a nearly $53-billion plan that would eliminate taxes on unemployment benefits and help retired workers keep their savings, he said it would help create jobs. And Obama's plan includes a 90-day freeze on home foreclosures, penalty-free withdrawals from retirement funds and a temporary tax credit for companies that create U.S. jobs.
My thoughts on this article is that it is very important for the United States to choose the right person to be president. Who ever has better ideas and more ways to help the United States should be elected. It's up to us to not make a mistake and choose the wrong president.
My prediction on this event is that Obama should be elected president because I think he has better ideas and more ways of helping the United States. I think McCain would make a god president too, but he's kinda old and his idea's seem to big. I hope Obama wins! :)

This article is about Abu Qaswarah, the 2nd in command of al-Qaida who was killed October 5th. He might have been killed by an extremist who used a suicide vest. He was of Morrocan decent and also a Swedish citizen. He was on Sweden's terrorist watch list, as well as the UN's and the EU's. also, violence in the Middle East has declined but it is still a major problem. Iraqi Christian families are at risk of being attacked by al-Qaida and are being evacuated.
I believe that al-Qaida should stop killing people because they believe in different religions. Everybody should be able to believe what they want and not be persecuted for it. I am also glad that Abu Qaswarah has died because that will mean that there is one less terrorist in the world.
My prediction is that al-Qaida will slow down from the death of one of their leaders, but they will replace him quickly.i think we need to find the #1 leader of al-Qaida, then it will truly end.

Summary:
John McCain and Barrack Obama participated in their last presidential debate today in Hempstead, New York. It was a testy and occasionally offensive debate. Barrack Obama compared John McCain’s policies to George W. Bush’s. They discussed foreign and military policy, as well as taxes. It was a 2 hour debate.
Analysis:
In addition to reading the article, I also watched a good chunk of the debate. I thought that John McCain was more over-defensive then he should have been. I think Barrack Obama conducted himself in a more professional and respective matter. I also think that John McCain said a lot to avoid the facts while Barrack Obama was direct and to-the-point. John McCain was also very repetitive.
Prediction:
I think that Barrack Obama will win this presidential election. I think that him and his family are more respected and more well-liked than John McCain. However I predict that because he is African American, he will lose a lot of racist American’s votes. On the other hand, I believe that many Americans are ready for a change.

Mildrid M.,
I think that's amazing that so many people die every year from poor sanitation, some from not washing hands. It is illegal not to have a sink and soap in our restrooms. Yet, some people still don't wash their hands. I think as Americans we take for granted the things that we have.

More than 1,100 inocent civilians have been murdered in the bloody drug-realated battle in Juarez. Residents on the American side are afraid to cross the border due to the many casualties taken place in this city. Violence in this city began to mount early this year after the Mexican president stated that drug lords are a national offense. Initially the drug wars began off of drug cartels fighting eachother but now they are escalading to killings of military troops, law enforcement officers and government officals.
I beleive that this is a very serious problem that needs immediate action. With all of these innocent people being killed there is a very serious safety issue and American soldiers should assist this problem. I think that America should also send supplies and money to the hospitals housing these injurged people.
I predict that if America does not take a stand in this issue, then this drug battle will continue on. I dont think that this issue will improve with out immediate action on the United States Part. The killings of innocent civilians will just keep getting worse and worse.

summary-this article was about a gunbattle on the combodian border that killed two people. the gun battle was between thai and cambodian troops. both hope for a peaceful resolution but both claim that the other started the shooting. this inncodent has raised fears of war between neighboring countries.
Analysis-i believe that the fighting between thai and cambodian troops is pointless and that the sooner it stops, the better. i also think that this fighting is very bad because it could possibly cause wars between bordering counties, which would mean even more killing.
Predicition- i predict, that if some other county doesnt get involved immediatly and put an end to the fighting between thailand and cambodia, that it will result in wars between other counties nearby.

Summary – Mere days after North Korea has promised to continue taking apart it’s nuclear facilities, after long negotiations with the U.S. on their conditions, they have threatened to end all relations with South Korea in anger at the policies of it’s conservative president. If South Korea does not take this matter into serious consideration, North Korea says that they could isolate nuclear talks with South Korea and get closer with the U.S. “South Korean officials have said Seoul is ready to speed up cooperation projects if the North reaches out.”
Analysis – I think that South Korea and North Korea need to find a way to somehow make each other see and understand the others point of view. I think it’s good that South Korea believes North Korea need to reach out, to show they are serious, but South Korea Also should put in a little more effort and their conservative president should be more open minded and not to “hard-lined”.
Prediction – I think that South and North Korea have both been through a lot so they are both willing and have motive to listen to each other’s proposals. I’m not sure of what will happen but I think, with support from other countries, the two will work out differences.

This article is about the disputes between Russia and Georgia. After the war had ended, they were supposed to have to talks about "security and stability arrangements in Abkhazia and South Ossetia in keeping with the cease-fire between Russia and Georgia." Russia came to the "meeting" fifty minutes late and groups ended up leaving them early. They didn't find a solutin or really talk at all during these meetings.
My thoughts on what this article is about are that Russia and Georgia won't get anywhere if the representatives won't sit with everyone long enough to come up with a solution to their problems. If they don't want to work together to solve their problems then they must not care for a solution at all. They are wasting the tume of the representatives that do want to be there.
My prediction of the outcome of this issue is that they will not find a solution to the problems with Russia and Georgia and the two regions. They don't seem to want to work together so nothing can be done.

This article gave information about plunges in the stock market, especially in Asia after a Wall Street sell off. Stocks in the U.S. fell after a report on a drop in consumer spending. The Dow Jones Industrial Average went down almost 8 percent including many other important organizations. European stock markets, due to the close of trading, dropped dramatically. The dollar was down against the yen, but made gains compared to the euro.
I think that it is really important that we pay attention to these drops in the stock market. I know that many people are greatly affected by it. They are losing their jobs, banks are starting to refuse to open accounts to people, and it is really awful.
This may turn out positive or negative for tons of people. However, it is out of my hands to know for sure how it will turn out. I feel that if people have good steady jobs, then they will have the money they need to support themselves and their families and there would not be this huge of a crisis.

Summary: This article explains the disputes that Obama and McCain are having. While McCain explains about the tax increase that Obama has proposed, Obama explains about the tax decrease. Although McCain has explained about the high amount of experience he has had, this article has concluded that maybe those years weren’t enough to persuade America. In this article, it has been brought to my attention that it seems as if McCain is trying to take everything that Obama says and twisting it around to make his reputation better. Also, from this article, it has stated some remarks that McCain has made that have been seen as inappropriate like whipping Obama in the “you know what.”
Analysis: I believe that Obama is the candidate that would best full fill the President duty. I believe that Obama has good future intentions that we can rely on. As we all know that technology is a thing of the future that is constantly being updated, well, if it is something that is a major part of our country and Senator McCain doesn’t have “using technology” as one of his fortes, then what are we doing to our country if we allow him to run it? I do enjoy the accusations that both senators have discussed; Although McCain does have some ideas that could be of great use to our country, I do believe that Senator Barack Obama could help and save our country from many of our worries.
Prediction: I do believe that the comments Senator McCain has said could potentially hurt him in this fight for elections. McCain does have a few ideas that I believe are necessary however Obama seems to have most conflicts down. It does seem that from the evidence in this article that Barack Obama will win this years presidential election.

Summary: This article is about the people that are getting killed in Afghanistan. Eleven civilians and three NATO solders were killed on Tuesday. Also nine children about the age of ten were killed by a bomb that blew up a bus. When this bomb went off it also injured six people near by. The militia said that they had assassinated the head of the government labour. Dost Mohammad Arighistani was killed in his car with his body guard. People have said that this is the bloodiest year there. There are 227 troops that have lost there lives and 3,800 other people lose there lives there in July. They think that the violence has gone up this year and it is one of the worst years ever.
Analysis: I think people should stop the war but not right away. They should slowly start taking troops out of Afghanistan and the war could end. This would help because there would not be so many people losing there lives and the war would eventually be over.
Prediction: I think that more people are going to die over there. Also that eventually some one will come to there senses and pull the troops from Afghanistan because so many people are getting killed. Finally I think that it will be awhile but it will happen.

This article was about 2 Vietnamese reporters accused of abusing their freedom in Vietnam. They were arrested for 'abusing democratic freedoms to infringe upon the interests of the State'. The two reporters had a 'scandalous' story on the corruption of government in Vietnam, even though everything they wrote in the articles were based on material provided my police sources. The police denied this fact. After trial, they were charged with 2 years in prison.
I think this was unfair because people have the freedom of speech in their country, and reporters writing articles of their opinions on national corruption isn't wrong. It was also wrong to convict the reporters for 2 years. This is unjust and the court should not have come up with this verdict in my opinion.
I predict that when the two reporters get out of jail, they will continue writing real articles on Vietnam's corrupted government. They did not deny anything they have done and will continue to 'speak only the truth'.

Basically whats going on is that our government wants to bail out the dips that were profiting from our current state in the economy. By doing this they achieved little compared to what were really dealing with right now. Also the heads of major corporations have gambled(not like poker)the peoples money away on retreats and pay checks. But even with all the bonuses and pay raises it dose not amount to the monstrous problem were facing. Some other governments have made it difficult to "um" manipulate the markets and banks by trying to expand their investors. For example the European markets and banks have been replenished with investors. But for smaller businesses profit is scarce.
Analysis
I don't think we are yet capable to take on the troubled economy. I think the more logical decision would be to take on the smaller problems that the troubled economy is causing and proof all potential problems that could arise. Some of them would be to have a better hold on bank lending and approvals. After we have depleted and fulproofed our smaller problems, I believe these steps will bring about change. Then we will be able to extinguish the economy's troubles at the source. Of course, as Bush has pointed out, it will take time to recover.
Prediction
I believe that if we focus on one problem at a time we will be able to see positive change. November's election will be the major factor in our economy change. Both candidates have different views so time will tell.

This article says that poor countries like India, Brazil and South Africa are banding together to get more money. The rich countries can afford the new changes but the poor countries have to cut off expenses due to rising economy and less money given by US.
I think that this problem will be very big. Lots of stuff are happening right now like gas prices, low stockmarket, etc. Every day these prices go up and soon everyone can't afford stuff. If every nation can't buy stuff then we will all die.
The UN and the World Bank need to help countries from rising prices. USA is losing money and so are other countries. It's like we raised prices so much that we can't buy stuff. Lots of countries are in debt and have to cut-off expansion plans for country improvement. Country proverty is a big issue that needs to be resolved.

Yes I think China should be more careful with thier products. I think this is due to child labor because children are less aware of what they are doing in making food rather than adults who know what is good and bad. China should re-inspect thier country exports to see if thier isnt diease in it. Maybe one day the bird flu will be in the products and then most countries will get sick from it.
Comment on Ellen G. -
I disagree with Ellen that the fighting between Thailand and Cambodia is pointless. If Thailand is attacking Cambodia, then shouldn't Cambodia have the right to defend themselves to the attacker. Show them a lesson not to mess with Cambodia. You can't say "lets be friends" every time and stop conflicts. If this is a war there will only be one victor. Thailand needs to back down from Cambodia. Also if another country gets invovled in other countries fighting it can cause a World War. Same thing happend to World War I and World War II. The war between those countries should be resolved over time and we shouldt try to step in on the problem.

http://www.cnn.com/2008/TECH/science/10/08/co2.fuel/index.html
Due to the recent turmoil that is based on the fuel economy a Californian company testing a revolutionary has developed a new method of recycling CO2 into fuel. Carbon Sciences, a carbon recycling company, are using biocatalyst technology to transform CO2 into fuel efficiently. In hope for a revolutionizing advancement that would help the fuel crisis. This technology would also reduce the millions of tons of CO2 emitted by the energy sector.
I think this idea would be amazing to actually take into action. The massive amounts of new energy that has been recycled would be better for the economy and for the environment. The U.S. would rely less on foreign oil and would have an opportunity to improve its economy.
Science, nowadays, has advance to a high level. This development and many others have probable results that can affect what the world will look like in the future.

In this article it talks about how Kenya is enforcing to keep peace. Ralia Odinga and Mwai Kibaki signed a peace deal on February 27 and many of the people celebrated. The agreement was posted by the grand coalition government known as a breakthrough of a partial amount of the world; Kenya is known for world war on terror, from the grand coalition government it has been a rough challenged they have faced. Many of the Kenyans are out under pressure to stabilize their nation and stay well equipped. Thus the issues remained unresolved. But now many of the Kenyans are depending on their political leaders to reconcile their capital. Kenya is currently facing a rough time in self reflection of their past. The vast coast violation is keeping the country together in a transitional phrase. A parliament has now been put into action and is now put under pressure to hold the executive check and deliver key promises of all peace. All hopes are dependent on forming a new constitution who knows?
I feel that this article was very interesting. I learned that Kenya is a un-stable nation and now that they are coming up with solutions to fix this problem it shows that they are showing effort. My theory is that if you at least try to make an effort of where you live and give its title a well statement then they know you’re trying. Because it’s a tough obstacle to overcome I believe that many of the Kenyan people can succeed only if they are convinced with coalition government. I agree on what the government is trying to imply to Kenya of probably forming a new constitution. Doing this will set more discipline and really action on the following issue. Overall taking action on the global issue is a big help and gives a title to the country and government that they actually take their time to solve solutions worldwide.
I predict that the Kenyan people may disagree but they must participate and that’s the only way they can live up to a well stabled nation. Hopefully the coalition government can from a new constitution and fixes the problems of the Kenya people including their nation. Maybe taking action will be a big breakthrough of terror because these people may realize that they need to stop all chaos. Most of these people depend on their following political leaders and I think they need consider how their lives portrayed.

This aricle talks about how food prices are being raised aronud the world, but some countries suffer more than just starvation. It explains that that some countries suffer violence just to get food and that political figures have been ran out of office because they were the cause of this.
I think that right now in this time period that we are going through an economical downfall and that this problem was seen years before, so we should not be surprised. But I do agree that prices should be raised even though it will be more expensive because that money goes to workers and if we don't pay them we have no purified food.
This I think is a problem that will follow thee world forever because food prices change depending on the how the economy. I alo think it will be more of a problem that people will get used to and just set it aside that it will always change like weather.

This article talks about the presidential election between Barack Obama and John Mcain, and the debate they had. The debate was held on the 15 of October, and entering into this debate, Obama was the front runner. This debate was also Mcain's last opportunities to reverse the glory Obama had received from the other debates. After the debate however, polls of CBS and CNN declared Obama the winner of the election. Mcain doesn't want to lose any of the states that voted for Bush in the 2004 election, and he wants to gain more states. Mcain also is heading to Florida and North Carolina to campain. Obama is heading to Virginia and Missouri in the next few days to campain. Virginia hasn't voted for a Democratic candidate since 1964.
America trusts in Obama more than Mcain to handle the economy. The article also said that Obama said that Mcain hasn't explained how his(mcain's- ideas would differ from Bush's ideas.
I think Obama is going to win the election, not only because Obama has more supporters than Mcain, but he seems more confident than Mcain in these elections. American needs a leader that is ready to stand up and take control, not someone who is not as confident. Obama is confident, thats why he's leading the polls over Mcain. Obama also has better ideas, and with these ideas, America will be changed in a good way, not like a Bush way.
The article about the election of Obama and Mcain is from me, Navraj Kaler( Period 0). I forgot to write my name!

I think that the topic and your approach to it was good but what what didn't fit was the begining sentence. It was a good one but I think you wouldn't start a first sentence with that sentence it needs to hook the reader. I also think that when you give your opinion that you should look at it in a politalcal stand point also instead of just how you feel.

This article is good and it's topic was interesting. But on your opinion you should include more on how you think it will benifit civillians that aren't involved in politics or technology.

The people of Zimbabwe have been suffering due to the excessive avarice of their president, Robert Mugabe. This was the main reason that the people of Zimbabwe needed to step in, in order to attain change. On October 16, the Women Of Zimbabwe Arise, a civil group, was protesting due to the high inflation, 231 million percent, and the high rising cost of food. When the raid police arrived, they were merciless and captured the leaders of the protest, Jenni Williams and Magodonga Mahlangu. They thought that if the leaders were under arrest, the rally would soon dissipate, but the people were too desperate to end their march. It appears that Mugabe is too concerned with the welfare of his party, since he wanted to give members of his party the most important posts in the Cabinet, and not the well-being of his country’s citizens.
I feel that it is WRONG of Mugabe to care more about the gain of his delegation, and not about his people. “ A unmanned boat needs no captain”, as is said in Oedipus Rex by Sophocles, applies to, or will apply to. Zimbabwe, because if there are no people in this country, then there will be no need for a president. So if Mugabe wants to keep his post, he will need to start paying more attention to his citizens , and not his deputation.
I think that Mugabe will not change, because of his greed for money and power. The UN will probably end up having to get involved, because of Mugabe’s lack of supplying for his people. The UN will have to give them food, medicine, and basic necessities. I hope that the UN will help this country, because its people deserve to live, and live with health.

McCain, Obama Focus Campaigns on Few Contested States Edwin Chen
Thu Oct 16, 4:51 PM ET
Oct. 16 (Bloomberg) -- Democrat Barack Obama and Republican John McCain, their final debate behind them, today began a sprint to the Nov. 4 vote by campaigning in the shrinking number of battleground states.
The debate was one of McCain's last opportunities to reverse the momentum that has been running in Obama's direction in recent weeks. Polls conducted immediately after their face-off at Hofstra University in Hempstead, New York, by CBS and CNN showed most viewers judged Obama the winner.
McCain has ``no choice but to go on the offense'' and try to chip away at Obama's lead in a few Democratic-leaning states while holding on to the states President George W. Bush won in 2004, Republican strategist Rich Galen said. ``McCain can't lose one that he should win,'' he said.
McCain is in Pennsylvania today. The state, with 21 electoral votes, is one of the so-called blue states that the Arizona senator's campaign is targeting even though recent polls there show Obama widening his lead. Obama is campaigning in New Hampshire, where McCain has scored two crucial primary wins in his presidential campaigns.
Mike DuHaime, McCain's political director, said McCain in the coming days will focus on traditionally Republican-leaning states while ``keeping the pressure on'' in a few that have favored Democrats in recent presidential elections. Along with Pennsylvania and New Hampshire, the campaign will compete in Wisconsin, Minnesota and Maine, DuHaime said.
Playing Defense
Still, McCain is being forced to play defense in Republican areas. He heads to Florida tomorrow and will campaign the next day in North Carolina. Illustrating Obama's widening reach, the Illinois senator tomorrow goes to Virginia, which hasn't voted for a Democratic presidential candidate since 1964, and the bellwether state of Missouri the following day.
At a $30,800-per-person breakfast this morning in New York's Metropolitan Club, Obama cautioned against counting votes before they are cast.
``For those of you who are feeling giddy or cocky or think this is all set, I just have two words for you: New Hampshire,'' he said, referring to his loss there to New York Senator Hillary Clinton during the Democratic primaries. ``I've been in these positions before when we were favored and the press starts getting carried away and we end up getting spanked.''
Economic Concerns
In the middle of a financial crisis, Americans say they trust Obama more to handle the economy, and he leads McCain 50 percent to 41 percent in a new Bloomberg/Los Angeles Times poll.
The two candidates carried on with the themes they hit in last night's debate.
In Londonderry, New Hampshire, Obama accused McCain of trying to shift the focus away from the economy. He said the Republican presidential candidate hasn't explained how his economic policies would differ from Bush.
``In three debates and over 20 months, John McCain still hasn't explained a single thing that he would do differently from George Bush when it comes to the most important economic issues we face today,'' Obama, 47, told supporters at an outdoor rally.
McCain, 72, repeated his attack line: that Obama would raise taxes and put up trade barriers at a time that the economy can't afford such measures.
``The last president to raise taxes and restrict trade in a bad economy as Senator Obama proposes was Herbert Hoover. That didn't turn out too well,'' McCain said in Downingtown, Pennsylvania, referring to the 31st president, who took office at the onset of the Great Depression.
`Joe the Plumber'
They also revisited the debate-within-a-debate over who would better serve would-be Ohio entrepreneur Joe Wurzelbacher, who confronted Obama about his tax plans in Ohio on Oct. 12. McCain repeatedly invoked him last night, referring to him as ``Joe the plumber.''
``The real winner last night was Joe the plumber,'' McCain said today. ``Senator Obama told Joe that he wanted to spread his wealth around. America didn't become the greatest nation on earth by spreading the wealth; we became the greatest nation by creating new wealth.''
Obama used him to criticize McCain, saying the Republican wants to give tax cut to chief executives and corporations.
``He's trying to suggest a plumber is the guy he's fighting for,'' Obama said. ``How many plumbers do you know making a quarter-million dollars a year?''
Tax Breaks
Wurzelbacher achieved his fame when he told Obama he worried that the Illinois senator's proposals to roll back Bush administration tax breaks for Americans earning more than $250,000 would prevent him from buying a plumbing business that would earn between $250,000 and $280,000 a year.
Under Obama's proposal, the two top tax rates for taxable incomes of $250,000 and above would rise to 36 percent and 39.6 percent from the current 33 percent. Those who make less, according to Obama, would pay less than they do now.
McCain left Pennsylvania to head to New York, where he is scheduled to be a guest on CBS's ``Late Show With David Letterman.'' The late-night comedian has been tweaking McCain since he canceled an earlier appearance at the last-minute as Congress was dealing the financial-markets rescue plan.

Summary:
In this article it talks about how McCain is the underdog to Obama. McCain is focusing on traditionally Republican-leaning states while keeping the pressure on. McCain is defending himself while Obama is on defense. Obama needs New Hampshire. Obama has been accusing Mccain of trying to turn the focus away from the economy. Obama's economy policies will de=iffer from Bush's if and when he becomes president.Obama will raise taxes.
Analysis:
Basically the two candidates are accusing eachother of different issues. I think that as the United States, we definately should not raise taxes because some indigent people can't even afford to buy weekly groceries. McCain should'nt have to be defending himself, but he should be the one who is asking questions about obama's policies. I want McCain to win because he won't raise taxes. As a citizen, I don't want to be taxed!!!
Prediction:
These presidential candidates have risked a lot. They both have put in a monolithic amount of effort, but I think that McCain will end up winning the election to become president for multiple reasons. He has served his country and knows what it's like, and what's right when it comes down to military and the economy. Obama has what it takes but I don't think he will make it.

Why Russia is Bailing out Iceland
The writer of this article clearly states that he thinks Russia is bailing Iceland out because of the natural energy and oil from the Arctic. It talks about Russia’s past and what could be the future of Russia and the Arctic.
I think Russia is just bailing Iceland out just to be on their “good side”. Therefore, if they begin to become Allies Russia can use their oil, and or energy.
This might be a little extreme but I expect sometime in the future Russia is going to try and take over Iceland and Georgia again. I also think Russia needs the oil that Iceland has.

"For the first time since their independence, the two neighboring states are establishing diplomatic relations." Meaning that they are proud that the countrys are taking control of the problem.
Analysis: My thoughts on this topic are that if the two country's settle their disputes
and disarm themselves, they will both have each other to rely on when one needs the assistance.
Prediction: I predict that both country's will at least try to settle their disputes and settle any unsolved buisness.

This article was about how Somali pirates from South Korea kidnapped 24 sailors and hijacked their vehicle. The cargo got hijacked on September 10 in the Gulf of Aden and a month later they were returned. All the sailors were told to be safe and no ransom was paid. Now the South Korean government will dispatch naval vessels to counter any possible hijacking of South Koreans cargo.
I thought the pirates were dumb capturing the sailors because it will attract more attention to them. I thought it was strange that the pirates didn't get anything in return, but then again it would cause more public attention.
I think the South Korean government will try to spend more money on other naval vessels to protect their cargo. I think the Samali pirate will continue to hijack and kidnap more sailors.

BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) -- At least 6,000 Christians have fled the northern Iraqi city of Mosul in the past week because of killings and death threats, Iraq's Ministry of Immigration and Displaced Persons said Thursday.
The number represents 1,424 families, at least 70 more families than were reported to be displaced on Wednesday.
The ministry said it had set up an operation room to follow up sending urgent aid to the displaced Christian families as a result of attacks by what it called "terrorist groups."
Iraqi officials have said the families were frightened by a series of killings and threats by Muslim extremists ordering them to convert to Islam or face death.
Fourteen Christians have been slain in the past two weeks in the city, which is about 260 miles (420 kilometers) north of Baghdad.
Mosul is one of the last Iraqi cities where al Qaeda in Iraq has a significant presence and routinely carries out attacks. The U.S. military said it killed the Sunni militant group's No. 2 leader, Abu Qaswarah, in a raid in the northern city earlier this month.
In response to the recent attacks on Christians, authorities have ordered more checkpoints in several of the city's Christian neighborhoods.
The attacks may have been prompted by Christian demonstrations ahead of provincial elections, which are to be held by January 31, authorities said.
Hundreds of Christians took to the streets in Mosul and surrounding villages and towns, demanding adequate representation on provincial councils, whose members will be chosen in the local elections.
Thursday, Iraq's minister of immigration and displaced persons discussed building housing complexes for Christian families in northern Iraq and allocating land to build the complexes.
Abdel Samad Rahman Sultan brought up the issue when he met with a representative of Iraq's Hammurabi Organization for Human Rights and with the head of the Kojina Organization for helping displaced persons.
A curfew was declared Wednesday in several neighborhoods of eastern Mosul as authorities searched for militants behind the attacks
http://edition.cnn.com/2008/WORLD/meast/10/16/iraq.christians.mosul/index.html
The Extremist threatened Christian lives because they wanted representation in town elections. A bunch of Christians fled. Fourteen Christians were killed by the Muslims. The Govt. wants to build refugee centers for them.
I think it is really sad that Muslim Extremist have no tolerance for other ways of life. They attacked America on 9/11 because they didn’t like American ways of life. It is not good and I think they should be eliminated.
I predict that the terrorist will be attacked and they will have a lot more harder time of terrorizing people. They definitely will not reason, just fight.

Summary:
This article was about that China is doing what it could to help Pakistan avert financial disaster. There was a meeting between Chinese Prime Minister Wen Jiabao and President Zardari about the partnership between the two countries. On Wednesday, both countries signed 12 agreements and President Zardari would seek a 500 million to 1.5 billion dollars of loan from China to help Pakistan. Later on the two countries agreed and cooperated together.
My Opinion:
I wouldn't really agree with this situation because I don't really understand why China has to help Pakistan with all these things. On the other hand I wouldn't disagree either because China would have their own explanation of why they are willing to help.
My Prediction:
I think that China and Pakistan would continue cooperating with each other because they signed all these agreements together. I don't have any idea of how long these two countries can cooperate, but I don't think it can last that long because I just don't think they seem like two countries who would work together.

the thai foreign ministry officials accused the cambodians of laying landminesinside of thai territories today. both countries have recently banned the use of landmines in their countries. the cambodians deny doing anything, however.
i believe thailand is not lying, at least not intentionally. they have banned the use of landmines, and also it wouldn't make much sense to blow up your own country. also, the UN has given ownership of an important temple to cambodia, and it is likely that cambodia would not want thais attempting to use it. Howver, looking at the other side, the main access route of this temple runs through Thailand. It is possible that Thais do not want people ging through if they cannot have the temple for themselves, or that they want to make this look like Cambodia's fault, so that they can have the temple.
I do not think that this conflict will be solved any time soon. I think guards will need to be put on the spot of the landmines, and, in the liklihood the this is actually the doing of a third power, the two countries will need to be able to talk to eachother without going at throughts. as this is not very likely, I am sure the enitre idea will take much longer then anybody wants.

Summary:
Due to the approval of making the Preah Vihear temple a U.N. World Heritage site, Thailand rushed troops to the border between Cambodia and them in fear of losing their land claims. The UNESCO accepted Cambodia's bid on making the temple a U.N. site, which contributed to the increasing tension between both neighboring countries. The tension led to an armed conflict over the demarcation issue and led to killing of two men and the injury of ten. Both militaries agreed to hold patrols over the area being disputed and they have begun negotiating the border issues.
Analysis:
Cambodia made the wrong choice by giving the temple to the U.N. before discussing it with their neighboring country, Thailand. They should have realized that this could have resulted in armed conflict and tried to prevent it. Moreover, Thailand should have not jumped to conclusion about losing their land claims and also should have tried to talk before acting. However, Thailand responded in the only way they thought was best to keep their land, even though they acted incorrectly. Their impulsive action and Cambodia's response led to the deaths and injuries of soldiers.
Prediction:
I think that the dispute will be solved when Cambodia agrees that the land will be Thailand's because originally it was theirs. Cambodia won't give in easily but if the fighting increases I think that they will have to just to save their people the agony of war.

This article is about the election the UN held to elect new Security Council members. The UN elected the following countries to be members in the Security Council: Japan, Turkey, Austria, Mexico, and Uganda. The article state that the Security Council has a great power, and can impose sanctions and dispatch peacekeepers. Many countries in Asia favourite Japan, except for Iran, who challenged Japan for the seat. Austria and Turkey easily won the European seats, as well go for Mexico and Uganda who both ran uncontested and won the Latin American and African seats.
I believe that a Security Council is just what we need in these violent times in the world. I hope the five countries will be effective to help countries who are facing countries who want to take over their territory.

On Thursday, Taliban militants kidnapped and killed thirty to forty bus riders in southern Afghanistan. Fifty were seized, but about ten were released. The others were taken to the Band Timor area to be killed. Officials identified the victims as ordinary citizens, but the Taliban arrested and killed 27 Afghan soldiers. Six of the victims' bodies were retrieved, all of which were beheaded.
Analysis:

Talks, Russian Forces Going Nowhere
Summary
In this article a lieutenant in the Russian army tells us he does not understand what the point of the war was. Also that the Georgian and Russian talks are going nowhere.
Analysis
I feel sorry for the Russian officer. He is fighting for something he does not understand and is growing old at an alarming rate. In my opinion that is not fare. If you're going to fight you should be able to fight for something you understand and believe in. I personally am not surprised that the peace talks aren't moving. Russia and Georgia keeps on throwing fuel on the fire. For example the Georgians are accusing Russia of trying to change the format of the talks several times. Second example they can't agree on how the representatives of the break away provinces should make their case. Because of this the talks are delayed until the eighteenth of November. Kind of hard to make progress and bring peace when you keep on pointing fingers and can't agree on anything. In my opinion the leaders of these two nations are acting like children rather than leaders. I get angry when I read about things like these. Because of these men young men die and fight for something that don't understand and probably not even worth fighting for.
Prediction
I think the Russian talks will go nowhere. This is just a truce during what is going to be a very ugly war, or maybe Europe will put enough on Georgia and Russia that they will have to come to heel. Hopefully that will happen instead of the ugly war.

This article talks about the Asia Space Race, similar to the one between the US and USSR, but this one includes the Asian powers, India, China and Japan. India sent its first unmanned mission into space a few days ago. This signals India's signal to become a global powerhouse. The India's moon launch follows China and Japan's lunar probes from last year. The three asian countries are all showing there upcoming super powers through this space race, just like the one between the US and the USSR. You can say as of right now, China is winning the Space Race, becasue there the only country out of those 3 that have sent a man in space. India does not want to be left behind from China.
I think this affects the world alot. Just like how the US and USSR afected the world, this one will too, It will show who is going to be the best in the world along with America. Not only will this show the world which country is ready to step up, but it will help the world. With more countries getting better, especially in the Space evolution, we will have more knowledge of the universe, because we have more countries participating.

This article explains why it is easy for pirates to hijack other ships; they have not had a government since 1992 therefore they cannot gaurd the coastline. ALso, the author of this explains the pirates are asking for $20 million ransom, the company who operates the cargo ship only raised 1 million
I think that this international problem should be maginfied. This is very serious and can get more violent. I think more people should donate for the ransom also.
I think this problem will get better. More countries are helping gaurd the coastline. However, they will have problems because the Somailia pirates have ships that look like fishing ships

In the Islam countries there has been many issues with terrorism and the taliban. as a result of this, moe and more regions within and outside of Islam have been trying to resolve the problem. Islambad and Kabul are two countries who have contributed to eliminate the dilemma. On October 28, the two regions decided to old meetings with militants in their respective areas, However, the only way this would happen is if the Taliban abided by the countries' constitution and if the militants laid down arms and renounced violence. Officials believe that this might cause controversy by the western regions because they insisted that the militants lay down weapons and renunciate violence without meetings.
Making an effort to improve your home is always worthy of praise in my eyes. So, when countries like Islambad and Kabul do whatever they can to create a better name for their country, it makes me happy because i feel like not all of the world has given up hope on each other. Also, i believe that this is a huge step for the Islamic community in strengthening their economy and being a main ally to the most important countries. Islam has made great improvement since 9/11 and i hope that at least their economy gets stronger while the U.S's getting weaker.
If the Taliban and militants cooperate, then i predict that this method will be a success because the two regions and most likely other regions are putting a lot of effort into meeting with the militants and resolving the issue of terrorism violence along the borders. Another factor is if the governments cooperate with the countries and help them to organize meetings or loaning more to them for more weapons are military.

Summary: This article is about baby bottle containing BPA (bisphenol A). In the University of Pennsylvania though they found out that the last report wasn’t enough information from FDA and that it needed to be overviewed. They did the research and found out hat the bottles had a lot of BPS. It is fine if it has some it is resistible for the human body but at some point it is dangerous. The concerns are not only that they are in babies’ bottles but in other plastic containers. It focused on baby bottles because they are barely developing and it affects their brains worst then a developed human.
Analysis: From my point of view it is unacceptable for the FDA for not doing a whole and proper research. They should of have checked the results more than once to be positive sure so the baby bottles or other plastic containers could be sold.
Prediction: Now from the result of this we could have created some type of new disease. Babies are going to get sick but most importantly something might go wrong since they are barely growing up. This affects their brains and bodies. The disease might spread around and caused some thing global. Also we might not have enough technology to fight this new disease.
