This article talks about how racism is a very touchy situation for them and it affects people. This article also talks about how Europe always comes up when talking about racism, because of it multicultured population this stiuation comes up alot. Also how becuase of this, Europe has suffered many problems with their occupants.
I also agree with this that racism can be a picky situation to some that have problems relating that. Also that even though that racism is banned that we still have problems relating this.
I think this problem will never be gone cause even though it's against the law people do it any way.

This article is mainly about the number of women creating suicide has increased dramatically over the past decade and increasing the suicide rate as a whole, a new study they have found. The believe the middle-aged women are the ones who are driving the increase, according to some researchers. They have increased the overall suicide rate between 1999- 2005 amoung white ages 40- 64, with white middle- aged women experiencing the largest increase. The rate rose 0.7, mainly increased 3.9 for middle- age white women and 2.7 for white men. They have not yet known the reason why this suicides have been occurring.
My thoughts on this article is that people shouldn't be doing such thing for any reason because their hurting other people in their lives. They shouldn't be doing such activity for people in their aged group. It is upsetting that they way they respond to problems is just by taking their life away from them.
I predict that doctors and researchers will talk to the people that have been doing suicide and understand what they're going through. They should investigate thoroughly to examine what are some of the characteristics that make them become suicide victims.

This article was about the UN Secutary being concerned about human rights in Iran and is asking Iran to do something due to the discrimination against women and minorities. He was asking to do something to help their education and the discrimination against most women in Iran. But the spokesman for Iran had no comment about this.
My thoughts about this article was that it's a good idea for someone to be concerned about Iran and the rights of women. But they should try and help them out some way. Although Iran had no comment about this or no request to help in anyway, we should still do something about it.
I think that Iran will not do anything about this, because as it says in the article they had no request for this. But showing that someone is concerned about this will make other people concerned and help out with this situation happening in Iran.

Summary: The White House on Monday heard about an attack on a bus in southeren Afghanistan. The bus was attacked by Taliban. This attack killed more than 30 innocent civilians. This was a contribute to the on going war with the people of Taliban and the people of Afghanistan. People are trying to stop this war and help Afghanistan have a future.
Analysis: I think that it is a bad thing that poeple are dying from this on going war with Afghanistan and Taliban. Also i think it is time for them to stop this war and settle their differences. People in Afghanistan get mad because innocent people are dying, however if they stop this war none of the innocent people will die.
Prediction: I predict that the war will eventually stop, however it is going to take a long time. I have a feeling that this is not the only event of people dying that is going to happen in the next few months. I believe that this war is going to stop in the next year or two.

Edwin D,
I think that you could have read the article a little more and got more information from it. Also i think that you should add more to your analysis and prediction paragraphs.

I totally agree with you. Some people will always be racist and I’m not sure why. Everyone should be treated equally. Great job :]
By the way…you should check out this poem…its my favorite
Race
by Gemma Mirkensen
from Paint me like I am: Teen Poems
Race
People hate for it
Talk s*** for it
Get arrested for it
Die in burning churches for it
Mamas pray for it
Cry for it
Love for it
Fight for it
Men in white sheets kill for it
Little girls wish their eyes were blue for it
Some try to convince themselves that
It does not affect them for it
Mirrors show disgrace for it
F*** you for it
Wanting for it
Boys from Chicago get killed for saying hey
Baby for it
Liquor stores appear on every corner for it
Crack infiltrates whole communities for it
Billy Holiday sings about strange fruit for it
No matter how much it is thought of as nonexistent
It will never leave us
It flows in our society like a never-ending river,
It beats people down slowly
And appears through the crack in the side walk
We can try to hide it
To convince ourselves that it has disappeared
But in reality
Race is immortal

Mildrid M.,
You have a wonderful article. I also wonder why more people are committing suicide, and what researchers are going to find out. That is very interesting how suicides have increased. In addition, I believe that committing suicide is stupid, it doesn’t solve your problems, it just puts them on someone else.

Summary:
India successfully launched its first space mission to the moon. The unmanned spacecraft, Chandrayaan 1, embarked off the launch pad in southern Andhra Pradesh and into a two-year exploration mission. The robotic probe will map out the moon’s surface, as well as its elements and minerals. It will search for sub-surface and surface water and ice, especially at the poles. Another part will search for traces of Helium 3, a rare isotope on earth, the may be used as energy in the future. The mission costs approximately $78 million. The probe will also investigate the differences between the moon’s far side and near side.
Analysis:
I think it’s great that India is developing their space program. I believe that they are trying to keep up with the rest of the world. From this article, I can tell that the spacecraft is very advanced.
Prediction:
I think that the spacecraft will return and be classified as a great success. I think that India has learned from other countries’ mistakes regarding aircraft and have built a wonderful spaceship. I think it will have little problems and transmit loads of information. However, I don’t think that Chandrayaan 1 will find Helium 3 on the moon.

Summary:
This article was about a man, Parwez Kambakhsh, who was sentenced to death for questioning womens rights listed under Islam. His sentence was taken back but he was still sent to prison for 20 years. One of the witness testified that people were threatened him to testify agaisnt Parwez Kambakhsh.
Analysis:
Afghanistan is a very strict country with a close-minded religous society. This case also shows how little freedom there is in Afghanistan. Religion in there country is being taken into very literal terms and has enslaved their point of view.
Prediction:
Cases like this will continue to arise. The only way that this would stop is for the government to become more open-minded or change it's religion. Knowing that neither of these two things might occur the people of Afghanistan have to continue to keep their thoughts to themselves. Bunching it up inside them until they burt and the whole country goes balistics.

This article talks about how the Britain prime minister and the Iraqi prime minister discussed about the problems of Iraq. So far 4,000 British troops left Iraq and there have been three bombings already since the British troops left.
I think that Britain should give 2,000 of its troops back to Iraq because Iraq is suffering dramatically, but I feel that it's unfair for the troops to come back though.
I think that Iraq will have a more bombings this month than usual. If the British troops come back then the bombings will go down.

The October 2002 Bali Bombers that killed 202 people - 88 of them Austrailian tourists - in a nightclub bombing are schedualed to be executed in the near future. Their lawyers have been making requests for them to be beheaded instead of being shot till death because they claim it is less cruel and goes along better with their religous believes. They show now remorse to their crime and say that their deaths will be avenged. Inonesia has since sufferde three similar attacks, but foreign diplomats, analysts and authorities agree that they treat level has significantly decressed.
Anaylisis:
I beleive that the death penalty is wrong and needs to be revocted. People do not deserve to die just so that we can feel better about ourselves. It is a form of retaliation that is wrong and unmoral. I also beleive that it they are goning to follow through with this punishment that they victoms should be able to choose their own form of death. If beheading follows along with their religious believes then the government should fuffil their wish.
Prediction:
I belive the death penalty will still be used in many countries no matter what protesters do and that the two Bali Bombers will be executed. I do not beleive that they court will grant their wishes to be beheaded and that they will injustly shoot them to death. This is immoral and wrong and a stand should be made.

this article was about a guy who took a quote to the wrong level. After a former Mr. Gay UK was watching Brokeback Mountian with a gay lover, when Damian Oldfield said “Try me… I’m not your average poof”. That’s when Anthony Morley, 35, took it the wrong way. He killed Oldfield by slitting him in the throat, and stabbed him 20 times. Then he seasoned him up, and took a bite of his flesh. He later came to a restaurant and drunkenly said that he killed someone.
I think that in today’s society, homosexuality is not taken seriously enough. It is a view that depends on your own belifs. But I belive it is being thrusted upon America through the media. These are the kind of things that should be prevented, because in this case, someone was brutally killed.
I think that if the media becomes more vulgar over time, then the world will follow what they are shown. It is like I said before, a preventable thing, but only if we take action before it is too late.

This article talks about the United States of America is concered about where their money is going towards tobacco and where is the tobacco going to. It also explains the negatives and positives of tobacco and how it affects our community and economy.
I agree on the negatives of this article and how tobacco is bad and doesn't add greater character to people but just kills us and our country. I think that tobacco should be used in a more helpful that doesn't affect the life span of people.
For the solution to this problem all we can do is just keep an eye on where the money and tobacco is going to. Because if we completly strip tobacco out of the economy it would hurt aas financially becuase many people wouldn't have jobs and ask for financial assistance.

Summary: In this article, it states that an Afghan student was convicted of blaphsemy for circulating an article on woman's rights under Islam. Because the article directly accussed the rights issue of being to harsh, he was sentenced to death. However, this past Tuesday, three judges ruled that the death penalty was too harsh, and they changed his sentence to 20 years in prison. Human rights groups and international organizations are outraged because they believe that this is a step in the wrong direction for the Afghan government.
Analysis: I believe that it was the right desicion to change the sentence from death to 20 years in prison. However, I believe that he should not have been initially charged for circulating the article. I believe that each person has a right to speech, no matter their political and religious views. In my opinion, 20 years in prison still seems too harsh for the "infliction of religion" that the student has caused.
Prediction: I think that the student will serve his 20 year term, but several international human rights organizations will be outraged and will protest against the Afghan government.

US, Russian Military Chiefs Hold Face To Face Talks Post Georgia
Summary
This article was about the Russian and US military high command meeting to reestablish damaged relationship caused by the Russian invasion of the former Soviet republic of Georgia. The Americans said that relations will not be what they were, but that was no reason to not improve them. The Russians on the other hand said that whether these good will talks will go anywhere is entirely up to the US.
Analysis
In this article it says that Russian and American relations will never be the same. Well was the relationship between these nations positive in the first place? After all they were enemies and are still enemies despite all the crap both nations are spewing out. My opinion on this article is that I agree with the Russian and American relationship won’t be perfect.
Prediction
I think that these talks might do some good. Russia isn’t the most well liked kid on the playground right now because of its invasion of Georgia. Russia is in need of something positive and maybe improved US Russian relations might be the answer. On the other hand Russia might just be a wolf in sheep’s clothing pretending to want to make makey nicey nicey with America. While they are doing this they are secretly arming one of the US’s enemies with nukes. A perfect candidate comes to mind Iran, but probably this won’t happen. The Russians aren’t stupid and with the way things have been going a wrong move on their part could be disastrous. International heat would not be something Russia would want to experience again and considering how the US operates they won’t want to enter into a war. Just look at Iraq and you’ll see what I mean.

Summary: On Tuesday, Jordan policemen arrested a local poet for quoting the Quran and incorporating it into his love poetry. He had published his poetry without the approval or knowledge of the Jordainian government, and an official said that it insults the Quran. It is said that the poetry insulted the Quran by using the holy books words in sexual themes. Many other Jordanian writers and artists are petitioning and demanding for an immediate release of the poet because it is his freedom of speech, and they also called for "the end of oppression of freedom and intimidation practiced against intellectuals". The petitioning was called for because two years ago, two journalists were arrested and sentenced to prison because they drew caricatures of Muhammad. Many journalists and artists feel that it is time they have freedom of their speech.
Analysis: I think that the writers are right; people should be able to say what they wish, because they are just words that could have an entirely different meaning. I think the Jordanian government overreacted just a bit to the poetry, because even if the holy words are being used sexually, the words themselves could mean something else entirely.
Prediction: Honestly, I do not think that the Jordanian government is going to give in too easily. Many governments' biggest assets are the people's beliefs in (any) holy words, and freedom of speech could hurt their reputations. I think that eventually, the writers will get what they want, but the government will not go down without a fight.

Terrorist watch lists shorter than previously reported
Story Highlights
Chertoff: 2,500 people are on the "no fly" list
16,000 people are listed as "selectees" and receive extra scrutiny
Majority of those listed are not U.S. citizens
New Secure Flight rule designed to reduce misidentifications
From Jeanne Meserve
CNN Homeland Security Correspondent
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The federal government's terrorist watch lists are far shorter than has been reported, the secretary of homeland security said Wednesday.
Michael Chertoff revealed for the first time that 2,500 people are on the "no fly" list and only about 10 percent of those are U.S. citizens. Individuals on this list are barred from boarding aircraft because intelligence indicates they pose a threat to aviation.
Fewer than 16,000 people are designated "selectees," he said, and most are not Americans. These people represent a less specific security threat and receive extra scrutiny, but are allowed to fly.
The American Civil Liberties Union has estimated more than 1 million names have been added to the lists since the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. The FBI, which manages the Terrorist Screening Database, said in August that there were about 400,000 people on its list, but that approximately 95 percent of those people were not U.S. citizens.
But even if there are only 18,500 names on the no fly and selectee lists, thousands of people not on the lists are mistaken for those who are. They are often subjected to extra security at airports because their names are similar to ones on the lists.
A government program unveiled Wednesday is aimed at addressing that problem.
Under the program, Secure Flight, travelers will be asked to provide their full name, date of birth and gender when making airline reservations. The encrypted information will then be transmitted to the Transportation Security Administration, which will run it against the watch lists. The Department of Homeland Security believes the few pieces of additional information will dramatically reduce the number of people falsely identified as being on a watch list.
Currently, individual airlines compare the names on manifests with the no-fly and selectee lists. Their performance has been uneven, according to the Transportation Security Administration. Chertoff says having the government do the matching should improve efficiency and security.
The ACLU welcomed the privacy protections in the program, but Barry Steinhardt, director of the ACLU's Technology and Liberty Program, said it is based on "a hopelessly bloated watch list that has over a million names on it."
"It still is going to result in countless Americans being either denied boarding to a plane or being stopped [and] aggressively searched at airports," he said.

Citation was included with the article above this.
SUMMARY:This article reveals that the terrorist watch list is much smaller than what was reported. 16,000 were listed but there are actually only 2,500 and the majority of these people are not even U.S. citizens. Airline agencies have been effected by this because they aren't allowed to fly terrorists. They lost out on a to of money. There is a new secure flight rule to decrease some misidentification. People must provide specific information to get on the flight.
ANALYSIS: There is good and bad to this. I think that this is great because terrorists are getting to where they want to by the airlines. It's not like they can swim the many miles of nothing but deep water. But it sucks because the people who aren't terrorists have to fill out this whole mess of stuff. Going through customs sucks as it is. If this will help us catch the terrorists then it will pay off.
Prediction: Personally I think that this new rule will suck but it will pay off. I also think that this will decrease the amount of terrorist attacks in the United States which happens to be a GREAT thing.

http://www.cnn.com/2008/WORLD/asiapcf/10/22/pakistan.al.qaeda.commander/index.html?iref=nextin
This article was about an al Qaeda commander that was believed to have died. The al Qaeda commander was named Khalid Habib. The commander was known as operations coordinator near Pakistan border. Intelligence says that the al Qaeda commander is probably dead. He is not confirmed dead because there is no final DNA match. Pakistani officials reported that the missile strike came from unmanned drones. The missile strike killed at least 4 people and wounded 7 others. The U.S. was confirmed the only country to launch missiles from drones.
I think that the al Qaeda is mad with the U.S. because the U.S. killed the al Qaeda commander and 4 civilians. In my opinion, I think that it was good that the commander is dead because now the al Qaeda are now 1 commander short than what they had before the missile attack.
I think the al Qaeda will launch a counterattack against the U.S. because the al Qaeda just lost one of their commanders.

This article is about how Georgia receives 4.5 billion dollars in donation from outside countries. This money will go toward helping Georgias economy and help pay off war debts. The U.S. is donating 1 billion dollars, by far the most out of any country, followed by Japan at 200 million, and other European countries donating several million. Also, Russia said that they were going to withdrawl troops from Georgia, but they are still keeping several thousand there.
I believe that it is good that other countries are helping a country in need. This shows that when countries need help, other countries will back them up.
I predict that Georgia will have an economic boost since they will receive so much money. Also i believe that Russia will withdraw their troops.

This article is about how there is a meeting with the ASEAN (Association of the Southeast Asian) including the following nations, Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, and the three Asian countries to the north, China, Japan and South Korea. Yet The President Arroyo is discussing the issue in Beijing with the following 44 delegates and the meeting is about their global financial crisis in urging to develop emerging economies. Her approach among the meeting is to cushion the impact of a collapse of highly developed economies. Also she made an announcement in proposing to AESM summit the impact of credit crunch. Their summit theme is “Vision and action-Towards a Win-Win Solution.” Overall these ASEM’s members were founded in 1996 and now include ASEAN as secretariat, the 27 nations of EU commission, China, Japan, republic of Korea, India, Mongolia, lastly Pakistan.
I feel that discussing global issues with your following nations is a great way to communicate and it shows that they are taking action upon a financial crisis. When they are urging to develop economies and letting them know that their global financial is on a credit crunch. Meaning they are giving them a heads up and addressing the issue and are solving the issue.
I think that all nations will take this issue seriously, and I feel that it will all come to a solution. All for all I hope it comes out well. It was a good idea to discuss their financial problems because that way they are able to fix the international issue.

Argentina seeks nationalizing pensions
BUENOS AIRES, Argentina (AP) -- Argentina President Cristina Fernandez proposed a government takeover of nearly US$30 billion in private pension funds on Tuesday, saying retirees must be protected from the global financial crisis.
But her move spooked investors and triggered steep falls in Argentine stocks and bonds.
"While the U.S. and other countries are stepping in to rescue their banks, Argentina must protect our retirees," Fernandez said as she signed a nationalization bill that now goes to Argentina's Congress, which is expected to approve it within weeks.
Fernandez said she's required by the constitution to guarantee pensions. And Amando Boudo, executive director of the national social security administration, said "the government's only motivation to carry out this measure was to rescue our future and current pensioners from uncertainty."
But political opponents called it a scramble to prop up revenue that has fallen along with prices of soy and other commodities.
The Buenos Aires' Merval index closed down 10.99 percent at 1,047, after dropping more than 13 percent in mid-day trading. Benchmark Argentine bonds fell by an average of 7 percent, fueling the country risk measured by JP Morgan's EMBI+ index to 1,604 basis points.
"It tells the market that the government thinks it can change the rule of the game whenever its wants, which has caused Merval to fall, while the rest of the world remains steady," said Camilo Tiscornia, an economist with the Buenos Aires consultancy Castiglioni, Tiscornia y Asociados.
The 10 companies that manage the funds were banned from trading on the Buenos Aires stock exchange for seven working days by federal Judge Claudio Bonadio, who blamed their dumping of bonds and stocks for provoked the sharp drop.
Economic analyst Rogelio Frigerio in Buenos Aires called it "a desperate measure to fill the coffers of the public sector." Political opposition leader Elisa Carrio accused the government of trying to "loot the funds of retirees."
The nationalization would provide the government with enough cash to pay off millions in debt and finance infrastructure projects starved for credit. But Argentine governments have had a mixed record in managing pensions.
When Argentines were allowed to switch between private and public pension funds last year, only 20 percent opted for the government's plan. About one-fourth of Argentina's 40 million citizens use the private funds, contributing a total of $4.6 billion annually.
The private accounts, created in 1994 during a wave of privatizations, include Arauca Bit AFJP; Consolidar fund run by BBVA Banco Frances SA, a unit of Spain's BBVA; HSBC Holdings Plc's Maxima fund; Met AFJP, which is run by MetLife Inc; Origenes, owned by ING Groep NV; Futura AFJP; Nacion AFJP, run by Argentina's National Bank; Profesion + Auge AFJP; Unidos S.A. AFJP; Previsol AFJP S.A.
http://edition.cnn.com/2008/WORLD/americas/10/22/argentina.pensions.ap/index.html
The Argentinean president said she should take over $30 million in private pension funds to protect the retirees. When people heard this they removed their stocks in the masses causing big problems.
I think this was a bad move. She should have froze the stock market before she said this so everyone couldn’t take out all their money. She should have said her idea in a different way or just not have even thought of that plan. All she did was contribute to the stock market crash, good going.
I think this plan will just fail. It sounds like people didn’t like the idea and she had bad deliverance of the idea so I predict this plan will not work.

The article was about how Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice visited the country of Mexico to discuss drug trafficking and other important global issues with Mexico's Foreign Relations Secretary Patricia Espinosa.
With Mexico winning a seat on the United Nation's Security Council, Rice hopes that both the United States and Mexico will discuss more than problems both country's are dealing with.
This could be a way for the United States to grab hold to Mexico's attention. Perhaps the United States is using Mexico to also grab on to the other Security Council's attention to help the Unites States in the Middle East.
That is my opinion, but the two countries will most likely discuss the topics of smuggled weapons from the United States to Mexico. Hopefully the two representatives could settle on agreements

READ HOW SAD THIS IS…
This article addressed the causes of poverty and how it can emmensely effect the world. It stated “only half the world(3 billion people) live on less than $2.50 a day.” It also said that almost 1 billion came into ther 21st century without the knowledge to read a book or write their names. “Less than one per cent of what the world spent every year on weapons was needed to put every child into school by the year 2000 and yet it didn’t happen.” 10.6 million children died before the age of 5 in the year 2003- that’s like 29,000 children per day.
I was speechless after reading this article. I had to read it multiple times before it really sank in. I feel like a terrible person for what I take for granted every day. We have no idea how lucky we all are to be in a good school and all of us can make a difference. Every little bit counts. If you don’t care about what’s happening to all our brothers and sisters in the world, then you need to seriously wake up and “smell” the glorious things we have.
I think that this problem, although very important, will probably go unnoticed by the world. Not enough people care about it. If I was president, I would definitely do SOMETHING about the issue, instead of sit back and use all the money on guns.

The article i read was about whether illegal immigrants should be charged for identity theft as well as being here illegally. Some of them say they didn't know the numbers they used were those of someone else as well. Courts have been charging them on both accounts despite what they say about knowing it or not.
My thoughts on this issue are that it isn't right that they used the social security number of aomeone else, but if they really didn't know it was already taken, why should they be punished. They should have proof that they intentionally stole someone else's identity and then sentenve them to the appropriate amount of time in jail. About Illegal immigrants, I think that they can be here as long as they are working. It really isn't right to take them away from here if they are working hard. To tale them away from working and supporting their own families is unethical.
I don't think illegal immigrants will ever get a fair trial here in america. Courts and lawyers will overlook this issue and continue locking up immigrants for unintentionally stealing someone's identity.

Summary: This article is an opinion on the topic on proposition 8. This article seems to try to persuade those who are indecisive or voting no on prop 8 to change and vote for only men and women to be married to each other. This topic seems to come up very often in our everyday lives and should be discussed amongst everyone. Members who are for prop 8, believe that it is wrong for people to have same sex marriages and that it should not be taught to kids in school.
Analysis: This article came across as those who believe that men and women are to marry and the only ones that are to marry each other. It has also come to my attention that when voting no on prop 8 that people are afraid of the education that will be given to their children in school.
Prediction: I personally believe that every single person on this world has the right to marry. And, with that statement, I believe that if one person finds their mate in same sex than why should anyone stop them. I chose this article to see if I could understand both sides of this proposition to fully understand if my choice was correct according to my beliefs. I have come to understand that no one should be left out on the opportunity of getting married and that I have no right, or am in no position to tell anyone that they can not marry because they have fallen in love with someone who just happens to be of the same sex. Now, on the issue relating to the education of children in schools, education about same sex love and/or marriage will eventually be discovered by one. If parents are so worried about the young age of understanding about same sex marriage then I propose writing a law that should state the grade or age at which one is capable of being informed on this subject. Although the education of gay marriages may harm the religious commitments one may have, a family should be happy and cherish that their loved one has found someone that they truly love and not control their lives beyond the age of 18. I do understand a few of the regards towards gay marriage, however, I believe we all have the right to love in this world. I do believe that people will understand this and will vote no on prop 8.

This article is about the US army will give Iraq serious consequences if they do not allow further American troops permission to get inside of that country. Robert Gates from the US defense said that the "doors" were pretty much closed when the efforts continued. There was also some reluctance for these troops to get in. Either the US can get it or they cannot protect innocent civilians that have no right to suffer for the damage their government is inflicting upon the world.
My thoughts on this issue are that it is not really fair to the US Embassy when they cannot get inside a country to protect their civilians. Also it is right for the US to propose consequeces becasue the Iraqi government will not listen until these consequences are put forth. The Americans are doing the right thing by showing power, authority, and firmness in Iraq.
I think this is a very serious problem. My prediction is that this dilemma will gradually get better but it does not show any sign of decrease at this point of time. Also I believe that the United Nations has to step in , in order to solve the problem with the American troops and Iraq. I can only hope that this problem will get better for both the United States and Iraq.

Current Event #4
Story:
Again, China’s has a milk scandal this time resulting in babies deaths. This time four are dead and thousands ill after drinking contaminated powder. Twenty-two brands were affected yet it was very hard for the Chinese to find out which ones they were. When contacting the manufactures they struggled to get any answers. The culprit was melamine being added to the milk to camouflage it being watering down. Currently China government officials have made over 30 arrest but could this happen again?
Analysis:
Not only have the Chinese people lost confidence in their own manufacturing of products but the international world has too. There were many recalls on imported products having or possibly containing melamine. The other reality is that this many families have only one child and this inevitably is heartbreaking.
My Prediction:
Will the label “Made in China” have a different meaning for the consumer now? We saw a recall in toys sold in the U.S. earlier this year that were made in China. It turns out that they had lead. Imagine that! Now there are problems with the consume products! If China doesn’t even care about their own babies being killed or getting gravely sick, do the care about their international relations? I personally don’t see my self eating anything that comes from China now days.

Climate changing at a faster rate
This article is about how Earths Climate is changing faster than what scientists previously predicted. Waters are rising, temperatures are changing, sea ice is melting, and droughts are forming where they normally don’t. “One of the most concerning aspects of recent data is evidence that, in some places, the Arctic Ocean is losing sea ice 30 years ahead of current IPCC predictions.” Our climate is changing sooner than predicted, and at a stronger rate also. Sea levels are now predicted to rise twice as much as predicted. In Europe the North and Baltic sea are believed to experience higher temperatures than records show. "Over the past 50 years, it has warmed more than four times faster than the average rate of Earth's overall warming," Dr Tin said. This climate change is a serious issue and needs to be addressed right away.
My personal thoughts on this article are that the book “Silent Spring” is possibly coming to reality. Soon penguins, polar bears, and other arctic creatures will die out because their homes are melting beneath their feet, and their hunting seasons will be cut short, because of this. Even though, us humans are trying to do whatever possible to fix this threat, we aren’t trying hard enough. We are still burning oils, and we are still, litterly, destroying our earth. We need to try harder at saving our planet, and our animals. I believe that we need to be more energy efficient, and more green in order to save our planet. Who knows, soon the melting rates might triple within the next few years. Its just a matter of time until we do something to fix our planet, or destroy it.
Honestly, with this rate of climate changes, I have no clue of how this will turn out. Either all of the ice will melt and animals will become extinct, we will turn into a 2nd venus, or we will figure out a solution, and our planet wont be so… “screwed”. If we can just turn the things that destroy our planet into things that save it, our planet can finally be ok.

Pirates threaten Christmas shopping
In this article, African pirates from somolia are hijacking shipments from UK, Asia, and other places. The UK prime minister says that shipments are taking longer than usual because these priates. the shipments will go around cape of good hope and will take 3 weeks longer. He says that shipments might take so long it will reach christmas and its all because of these pirates.
I think these pirates need to be taught a lesson. Its too bad that the Somolian Navy can't do anything because Navy is too weak to fight agianst pirates who have ak-47's and RPGs. The UK has to protect thier shipments and might send some people to deal with the pirates.
UN doesnt need to do anything, because these are small time pirates. If UK deals with these pirates then christmas for Somolia will be saved!

I also believe that Afganistan did the wrong thing by arresting the man just for what he believed in and what he wrote. Afghanist and other middle-east countries have neglected their woman for too long, and now that they get thier chance to improve they blew it. Afghanstan should take back the sentence they gay to the scholar and make sure that this never happen agian. This issue with middle-east woman and their rights can lead to a very big human rights event in the UN if it isn't resolved.

This article is about the fact that the most commonly targeted people are childred when it comes down to reruiting neo-nazis. There are currently a lot of things being pinned on the neo-nazi organization. For intance, there was a bomb placed in one of London's gay bar killing at least 3people. Also, the famous Columbine High School massachre was cause by two students that supposedly were involved in Neo-nazi stuff.
I think that all this stuff about neo-nazis is hokus and that the authorities are just pinning these facts to them just so that they dont worry the civilians too much. I am sure that neo-nazi is active, but I don't think that they are strong enough to so anything as seriouse as that.
I think that eventually, the authorities will find a trail that will lead to the neo-nazi organization, and that they will turn out to be a small ans harmless group

This article talks about drug trafficking. Jesus Zambada Garcia , also known as "El Rey", is one of Mexico's most-wanted trafficker and was captured. He controlled one out four branches in the Sinaloa cartel. "El Rey" was inchanrged of smuggling cocaine and chemical ingrediets for the production of methamphetamine through Mexico City's airport. He was also invloved to some of drug killings in central ans western Mexico. A grenade attack in Michoacan ,that killed eight civilians, made Mexicans realized that the government is losing the war with well-armed drug gangs. Fortunately, Mexico received a $400billion package of US training and equipment.
Analysis:
it think that it was great that they captured one of the most wanted trafficker. We are one step closer to stop drug trafficking around the world.
Prediction:
i think with the help of the new equipment and more training, Mexico could elimanate drug trafficking or at least reduce it.

Summary:
This article was about a young man named Parwez Kambakhsh who was accused of blasphemy. He questioned women rights under Islamic culture and the Afghanistan judiciary system sentenced him to death. Blasphemy is an act of cursing or speaking abusively of God. Parwez’s case was appealed and his death sentenced was changed to 20 years in prison. Although the sentence was diminished to time in jail, people don’t stop believing that this symbolizes the “lack of respect for freedom of speech and individual liberties in Afghanistan” and that Afghanistan has failed in establishing a free and independent judiciary system. Parwez was not allowed legal representation and was said to be tortured in order to confess his crimes.
Analysis:
Although people believe that charges of blasphemy were a cover up and the real crime was that Parwez’s journalist partner wrote articles about abuses issued by warlords and militias, I believe that blasphemy could be a crime that is punished by death. In Islamic philosophy spreading mischief across the land is a crime punishable by death, and if Parwez questioned and spread a message that women’s rights are not just then that could be considered treason. I am not saying his trial was fair, I am just saying that a country has its own opinion on what can be punished harshly and what can’t. Moreover, Kambakhash’s case was not fairly executed. I think that his trial was unfair and that his “confession” should not have been used as evidence because he was tortured to get it out of him.
Prediction:
Cases like these will always exist because no one can force a country to change their way of thought without getting too involved in the situation. The US tried to change Afghanistan into a democracy, yet things like these still occur. Also, we had to fight in a war in order to make the least bit of progress. Furthermore this is also a capital punishment issue and that cannot be resolved because we can’t abolish the death penalty without hurting a country’s sovereignty. Sadly, Parwez Kambakhash will have to serve his time in prison because I don’t think there is anything we can do.

Comment on Remeny P.- I agree with you. A wedding day is the most important day for most women and being denied that happiness isn't right. Every person has the right to be who they are and to choose who they love and cherish til death do them part even if it is with someone with the same sex. It is not a sin to be different, but it is wrong to deny someone happiness. Like Remeny said, hopefully people realize this an vote no. Also, you should have put in how this is an international problem.
Comment on Jenny M.- The capture of "El Rey" is a big step to diminishing drug trafficking. If countries take the US example and help provide countries with equiment to stop drug gangs then this problem can be halted throughout the world. This article makes you realize that help is always needed.

My article was about the seventh "ASEM" which is the Asia-Europe Meeting. In this meeting Europe and Asia talked about severe matters and in china the major factor was human rights. Mr. Barrosa, a representative for Europe, said "a great opportunity for China to show a sense of responsibility". This topic was discussed heavily and China then promised that it would co-operate more closely with other countries on economics.
Analysis:
In the ASEM I think that bringing up the issue about human rights was necessary. Someone else might have brought up the topic up if he had not. Also maybe this is a wake up call for china that they need to step up on their game.
Prediction:
I would have to say that after this meeting maybe china got a wake up call that they either work toward a solution for the problem, or always be blamed for any human rights problemed.

summary- Two missles were fired at a religous school in Pakistan, killng eight people and leaving six people wounded. Ironically, the attack was only a few hours after a meeting was held stating that Pakistan needs to update its security. the United States has been actively involved by leading a Nato opperation to seek out who has been attacking Pakistan.
Analysis-i believe that the fighting in Pakistan is wrong, and that one way or another, it needs to be stopped. i do understand, that certain arguements with the Taliban are very heated and have caused many similar uprises such as this one in the past, but i dont think that that means that the conflicts with the Taliban are unresolvable. i dont believe that any of the worlds problems are unresolvable.
Prediction- i predict that if the attacks and fighting in Pakistan arent stopped sone, that it will cause another war. And war is hardly ever benificial to a country involved in it. i also think that the United States can not solve this situation alone, so unless we get some help from other countries, it wont do much good.

This article that China's economy is slowing down because of credit crisis. So for people that still don't understand, it is not good new for for the US. this is because the US is using china as an investor and as a trading partner. We give China many US foreign purchases and now its staring to slow. This is important because China is a good Customer to U.S. goods.
I think if China suddenly stops purchasing U.S. goods, the economy will start to suffer and then corrupt. We will need some Countries to buy all of our goods or we'll start to lose a lot of money. I will think that is soon to happen.
I predict that if china stops Buying things from us, then the U.S. will start to rely on other countries and wait till china starts buying more goods.

Denmark has been a major target for terrorist attacks since there were cartoons about Mohammad the Prophet, which has offended many of the Islamic extremists. On Oct. 21, Denmark found two men guilty, Hammad Khuershid and Abdoulghani Tokhi, for testing an explosive called triacetone triperoxide, or TATP, which was also used in the 2005 bombings of London. They had been arrested in Copenhagen in Sept. of 2007, but they were just recently convicted to the life sentence, but is usually shortened in Denmark to 16 years. These men have paid for their crimes, and I wonder when they will understand that assassinating people is never the answer.
I think that is wrong to kill people just because they have different faith or religion than what they do, and that people need to understand and be tolerant. The extremists are ruling with their emotions rather than their reason because they are feeling pain because they are different, but they need to recognize that it is ok to be unique, that is the reason that everyone has an identity. They really need to comprehend this simple fact.
I believe that we might be able to eventually solve the problem of terrorism, but it is still a huge problem in the present. I also believe that the UN will definitely have to step in, and the Ad Hoc Terror Committee will need to find resolutions that help the entire world liberate from the terror of these extremists.

Ten people were killed and six were injured in a missile attack, that was suspected to be from the U.S. on October 23. The attack hit a religious school directed by A commander named Sirajuddin Haqqani. The missile was carried by a U.S. spy plabe which bombed the North Waziristan because the Pakistani military was unwilling to go after a certain insurgent leaders and their networks of fighters.
I think the attack was good because it showed that U.S. needs to know what the Pakistani's plan is or what they are going to do with their hidden networks of soldiers, which can cause great danger to U.S. troops that are in the middle eastern area. If they don't go after their fighters, it makes U.S. officials think suspicious about what they are doing. I think the attack was to bring fear into Pakistan to make them go after the leaders and fighters.
I think eventaully that the Pakistanis will help them or tell them about the leaders and fighters because they can't really take bombs forever. They have to tell the U.S. sometime or another.

Summary:
A measure was hailed in official media as a landmark policy saying that China's family-run farming can, for the first time, be allowed to trade, lease, and even sell the right to use farm plots allotted by local governments. Now, farms can be better managed for production. The director of China's leading rural work group, Chen Xiwen, said any transfer of land rights must be done legally, voluntarily, and not forced, to prevent de-facto land seizures.
Farmers have been forced off their land by corrupt officials looking to cash in by building factories or other commercial projects. The practice has led to widespread unrest in China's countryside and further depleted the country's short supply of farmland. China is working on narrowing the growing income gap between urban and rural areas by encouraging investment and development in the countryside.
My Opinion:
I think it is a good idea to trade, lease, and sell the right to use farm plots because farmers may gain crops from trade and other stuff.
Predition:
I think that if this keeps processing, then China will slowly gain more profit which is what they are aiming for.

In this article, it is reported that two missiles were fired from an unmanned drone and struck a religious school in Pakistan's northwestern tribal region on Thursday. The missiles killed eight people and wounded six others, anonymous military sources said. The area attacked is believed to be a stronghold of veteran Taliban leader Jalaluddin Haqqani. The attack occurred a few hours after Pakistan's parliament passed a resolution calling for the need to review the way it was fighting terrorism. The United States is the only country known to be operating i the area with the capability to launch missiles from drones.
I think that the U.S. may have been responsible for the missile attack because they are the only country in the area powerful enough to attempt such an act. There are also bitter feelings between the United States and Pakistan, which could have led to an attack.
I predict that whoever was responsible for the attack will soon be exposed. This could lead to more problems with countries being able to work together.

In this article, we are informed that after being put on the list for pro-terrorism country, Pakistan passed an all-party resolution on how to combat extremists. They also set up military against the Taliban and Al-Qaeda. However, the U.S is still skeptical because prior attempts to reduce terrorism caused a rise in cross-border attacks in Afghanistan.
I believe that this is a great step toward advancement for Pakistan. Since 9/11, the U.S has been very skeptical about Pakistan. however, by trying to decrease the amount of extremists in their country, they have moved closer to the title of friendly country. Also, this could help the Pakistani economy and help strengthen the citizens.
If Pakistan persists in combating extremists and guarding borders, then i predict that all their work will pay off. however, if one of their plans fails, and they give up, then its is very likely that the situation will worse. I believe that they just need to be careful in which propositions the create and what majority of the people the are affecting b these propositions.

Summary: This article talks about scientist who experiment with foods to try to find a way to trick your body and make it think that you are full without eating as much. They want to develop food that will slow down your digestive system which will send a message to your brain telling it its full and doesn’t want to eat any more. Doctors say this will kill the obesity epidemic.
Analysis: In my opinion if this is successful it will raise up our population world widely. Obesity has become an issue in the past few years and many people have died from that. Too many people suffer from obesity and it is hard to stop once it has fully developed. This might also become a worst world issue. People might come to obsess with it and will star the problem of anorexia again. This could be successful if it is controlled properly. Also, scientists that are developing this should check on what they put on these products and make sure they don’t damage our bodies in anyway.
Prediction: Once this experiment is successful and %100 safety it will spread around the world and stop many deaths that are caused by obesity today. All the foods that contain this will sell a lot and fast.

This article is about a suicide bombing happening in Iraq. A suicide car bombing killed 11 people, and wounded 22, on a morning rush hour on Thursday, October 23rd. The attack was meant to kill the chief of Social Affairs in Iraq, but failed to do so. The chief's nephew was killed. A civilian walking was a witness, standing only 100 feet away from the explosion, and was desperately trying to help the wounded victims. Unfortunately, the police stopped anyone from coming into the area.
In my opinion, suicide bombings are a big problem in the middle east. The reason of these suicide bombings is linked to terrorism, and i think that Iraq should make a bigger effort to stop this terrorism. Over the years, suicide bombing has caused problems all over Iraq because of rebellions against the government. I think this should all stop.
I predict that the outcome of these suicide bombings will result in even more suicide bombings. Iraq is currently in a hole as a country right now, and are having major problems. As long as these problems are existent, i don't think the suicide bombings will stop. I also think that terrorism will still occur, as long as the Iraqi war is still existent.

I think that this international problem should be maginfied. This is very serious and can get more violent. I think more people should donate for the ransom also.
I think this problem will get better. More countries are helping gaurd the coastline. However, they will have problems because the Somailia pirates have ships that look like fishing ships

MR. WALDRAM I DID THIS WENDSDAY NIGHT BUT I PUT IT ON CURRENT EVENTS 2.
Comment on Patrick N.
I liked your current event. However, I think everyone should leave Iraq alone for a while and focus on their own country. The Iraqi people had signs up to get the US out of their country. So I think they dont want help anymore. But they could just not want help from the US

Nice Current Event. I agree with your prediction completely. I really dont know if i beleive it is right to do this to your body though.

Commentation #1 on Aditi S.
I completely agree with Aditi that it is very wrong to kill people because of their religion and faith. Hopefully the United Nations will put a stop to the terrorist attacks on the worls and the world can be more peaceful if this happens. Great job on your paper Aditi! :)
Commentation #2 on Jayson N.
I also agree with Jayson that if China stops purchasing goods from the United States, well will lose a major consumer. We are dependent on China in many ways and this is NOT good news. We can hope that the credit crisis is resolved in China and that they will purchase more goods from us in the near future. Great job Jayson! :)

I completely agree with your analysis and prediction. True dat!!
Comment on Chris H:
I liked your current event and your analysis, but do you think that it could be possible that the Iraq war is only continuing because of the suicide bombings? Just a philisophical question.
That last comment was by Moira c. per. 3
Comment on Patrick N.
- I agree with your prediction. If the British keep it up, there will be more bombings in Iraq.
Comment on Jayson N.
- I disagree with what Jayson said. Even if China did not buy goods from the U.S., The U.S. wills till depend on China, and cannot afford to stop buying from China.

comment on edwin,
who? im your summary, you didn't say who you were talking about until later, it really threw me off.i agree with what you said, though i think there are ways we can go about, if not completely destroying racism, then at least knocking it down to a tolerable degree. the article was very good however, and aside from gramatical errors, i realy like what you posted^^
comment on caylee,
i'm really impressed with your comment. you used quotes, and you made sure everything you wrote related to your article. i also agree that this will stop soon, and that people should help with the randsom.

Barack Obama is 'President of the World'. http://edition.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/11/05/international.press.reaction/. November 5th 2008
Summary: In this article i learned that people around the world were cheering and applauding to the new President of the United States on November 4th 2008. It is said that people in London, the Middle East, Asia, India, and Kenya, all had something to say about this election.
Analysis: i feel that it is good that so many of the other countries are getting involved in this election and are staying posted with what happends throughout this election.
Prediction: i predict that with all these people watching an staying in sight og the americans they will begin to understand us a little better and beging ot realize that were not half bad.

This article shows about a 7.5 magintude earthquake in Indonesia.
I think that a 7.5 earthquake is really powerful. It can destory homes and leave permant scars on the earth, like San Andreas' fault.
1 person died and 23 injured were affected by the earthquake. Earthquakes cause lots of damage and should be taken care of.
I think we have no natural defense of earthquake; we cant stop them.We need to prepare our selves from this earthquake and realize how to strenghtn our buildings.
