Ireland is a republic and a parliamentary democracy. This means that the head of state is not a monarch, a legislative assembly, that favors government by the people or their elected representatives.

This article talked about the many peace disturbances in Ireland, one in particular the killings of a man and two soldiers. It has been raising fears about the North Ireland peace process. It also raised concerns that N. Ireland could plunge back into a cycle of violence that ended after the Good Friday Agreement in 1998. Northern Ireland, as of now, has a power-sharing government and a prevailing peace that was welcomed by all except those filled will rage and discouragement. Many people have also been rejecting the peace process and refuse to cooperate. This puts danger to many lives and the country itself.
In order to solve the problem I think these two believers should try to negotiate the land confusion as soon and maturely as possible. Unless they want even more violence to return to the island, they need to stop all foolishness.
I predict that the conflict will begin to rise and destroy the community and the country. Although they could possibly bring peacekeepers to the land, people cannot stop the beliefs and emotions of a culture.

CNN) -- Thousands of people in Northern Ireland protested Wednesday against the killing of two soldiers and a policeman, reportedly by paramilitaries who want the province to leave the United Kingdom and become part of the Republic of Ireland.
Girls in Craigavon, where the police officer was killed, join a candlelit vigil.
1 of 2 Unions organized a 30-minute silent vigil following the shooting of policeman Stephen Carroll on Monday and British soldiers Cengiz "Pat" Azimkar and Mark Quinsey on Saturday.
Vigils were held in Belfast, Craigavon -- where Carroll died -- and other towns including Lisburn and Newry.
The Irish Parliament in Dublin Wednesday "utterly condemned" the murders, which raised fears of a return to the violence that Northern Ireland suffered for decades before the Good Friday Agreement in 1998.
Ireland's prime minister, or taoiseach, described as the killers as "a tiny and unrepresentative group of evil people who have no mandate and no support for their actions.
"Those actions are futile and tragic," Taoiseach Brian Cowen said. "The people to whom I refer cannot and will not succeed. This debate, and those taking place in other democratic assemblies, makes that abundantly clear."
Police arrested two men Tuesday in connection with the killing of policeman Carroll, 48, a day earlier. The men, aged 17 and 37, were arrested separately "as a result of searches in the area," said a police spokeswoman.
Carroll was the first police officer killed by paramilitaries in Northern Ireland since October 1998, the police said.
The two soldiers killed Saturday -- Azimkar, 21, and Quinsey, 23 -- were the first British troops to be killed in the province in more than 12 years, the Ministry of Defense confirmed.
Politicians from across the political spectrum condemned the killings, with Sinn Fein deputy leader Martin McGuinness calling the killers "traitors to the island of Ireland."

How diplomacy brought peace to Northern Ireland
Sinn Fein is a predominantly Catholic party that seeks for Northern Ireland to leave the United Kingdom and become part of the Republic of Ireland.
It is widely thought to be linked to the Irish Republican Army, which fought a violent campaign against Britain for decades.
"I utterly condemn this latest wicked and murderous attack by dissident republicans," said Danny Kennedy, deputy leader of the loyalist Ulster Unionist Party, which wants Northern Ireland to remain part of the UK.
The Continuity IRA, a republican splinter group that does not accept the Good Friday Agreement, said it had killed Carroll, Britain's Press Association reported.
The two soldiers killed at a base in Massereene, in County Antrim, were preparing to ship out for duty in Afghanistan. The victims had packed their bags, changed into desert uniforms and were awaiting a final pizza delivery when they were gunned down, authorities said.
Two masked gunmen with automatic rifles shot the soldiers as the pizzas arrived at the Army barracks, authorities said. Two other soldiers and the two pizza deliverymen were seriously wounded.
Another militant splinter group, the Real IRA, reportedly claimed it had carried out the attack on the soldiers. There have been no arrests in connection with that shooting.
At the grass roots level, some republicans continued to feel betrayed by Sinn Fein and the old IRA leadership, who they felt had railroaded them into a dead end deal with the British that was never going to deliver a united Ireland, CNN Senior International Correspondent Nic Robertson said.
A few weeks ago a huge car bomb was discovered before it went off. At that moment it became clear the Real IRA at least was back. And it was no surprise that just before the recent killings, Northern Ireland's police chief called in Britain's top army surveillance unit.
The events of the past few weeks sparked fears of a return to the sectarian violence that Northern Ireland, a province of the United Kingdom, suffered for two decades before the peace deal in 1998.
The conflict was between unionists, who are mostly Protestant and want to remain part of the UK; and nationalists, who are mostly Catholic and want to join the Republic of Ireland.
For nearly 40 years, British soldiers patrolled Northern Ireland in armored vehicles and hunkered down in bases surrounded by concrete walls and barbed wire.
Violence spilled over into the mainland UK, with the Irish Republican Army, known as the IRA, bombing London and other British cities.

Summary: North Ireland protested against the killing of two soldiers and a policeman by parliamantaries who want the province to leave the UK and become part of the republic of Ireland. Vigils were held in Belfast. The Irish Parliament in Dublin condemned the murders which raised fears. The prime minister described the murderers as tiny and unrepresentable. Police arrested two men on Wednesday for the killing of the policeman.
Analysis: I totally think that this sucks because no soldier deserves to die because they fight for their country. Policemen dont deserve to die either. Why do the people who care for our country the most always die? Murderers are pretty retarded! I dont think anyone should take anyone elses life.

CNN) -- The search will continue until at least Friday night for 16 people missing since Thursday morning when a helicopter carrying them to an offshore oil platform ditched in the Atlantic Ocean off Newfoundland, Canadian officials said.
A helicopter made an emergency crash landing off Newfoundland en route to Hibernia oil field on Thursday.
One survivor, identified as Robert Decker, was found and taken to a hospital, but efforts to find more survivors had proven fruitless, said Maj. Denis McGuire of the Rescue Coordination Center in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
The body of one person, who has not been identified publicly, also was pulled from the water. There were 18 people aboard the helicopter when it went down, about 30 nautical miles from St. John's.
"All we've got is the debris field," McGuire said. "There are no indications of any [more] survivors, but the search will continue."
The water is 400 feet deep at the site where the helicopter hit the water, he said.
Helicopters and ships were scouring the debris field Thursday evening, and search-and-rescue technicians were planning to use night-vision goggles and flares overnight.
The debris filled a six-mile area, said Jeri Grychowski of the Rescue Coordination Centre in Halifax.
Officials became aware that the helicopter was having problems shortly after 9:10 a.m., when the pilot declared a mayday, McGuire said.
"They declared their mayday and then they hit the water or landed in the water approximately eight minutes later," he said.
About 25 minutes later, a helicopter arrived and discovered the survivor, the body, the overturned helicopter and two empty life rafts, he said.
Those aboard should have have been wearing survival suits that would have kept them dry and were equipped with lights and personal locator beacons, but the suits have not helped searchers.
"We have not received any signals whatsoever," McGuire said.
The suits theoretically would allow wearers to survive 24 hours in the freezing waters -- or until about 9 a.m. Friday -- but the search effort was to continue well beyond that.
"We will continue to search until there's absolutely no chance that any survivors will be located," he said. "Until last light [Friday]."
At that time, based on water temperature and the size of the search area, officials will decide whether to continue the effort, he said.
Early in the day, high winds and seas hampered the search, but by late afternoon, the weather had improved, though seas were still about 13 to 16 feet (4 to 5 meters) and winds were at about 40 knots (46 mph).
The survivor was taken to the Health Sciences Center in St. John's, Newfoundland.
The helicopter had been heading to the Hibernia offshore oil platform when it went down in what Grychowski called a controlled emergency crash landing.
The pilot reported some technical malfunctions before the crash and radioed that he was turning the chopper around, said Rick Burt of Cougar Helicopters -- the operator of the S-92 Sikorsky copter.
Bibliography: this article was found on CNN.com under Canada.
Summary: Only one survivor was found and taken to a hospital since thursday morning. The attempt to go on searching for the other 16 people is proven to be useless. The water is 400 ft deep where the plane crashed. The debris filled a six-mile area which makes it extremely difficult for people to find the missing people. A helicopter arrived 25 minutes later after the plane crashed. Those aboard should have been wearing life vests and stuff.
Analysis: I think this totally sucks. How could 16 people go missing with life vests on? I think that the life vests made it harder for them to swim away from sharks. they got cut from the crash and the sharks were there within minutes to eat them. haha

“Seven held over Amsterdam threat”
1. The Netherlands, which is a country in Europe, has a constitutional monarchy. That is where an elected or hereditary monarch is the head of state. This differentiates from an absolute monarchy, where the king or the queen is the sole source of political power, because they are not legally bound to the constitution. This is considerably similar to a parliamentary democracy where there is no difference between executive and legislative branches, but there is a clear difference between the head of government and the head of state. The head of government is the prime minister in the Netherlands.
2. This article was about how seven un-named people where taken into custody because of the potential threat to Amsterdam. The Netherlands police had been notified a day earlier from and ammoniums source in Belgium that there were to be several attacks meant to cause multiple casualties. The suspects have joint Dutch and Moroccan citizenship and were believed to be related to the 2004 Madrid train raid.
3. Some options for the Netherlands to solve this problem would to be to put the seven suspects into jail without bail. This would hopefully prevent the attacks that were planned, from happening. Putting these criminals in jail will show the Netherlands police force’s power and strength, and show that they will not accept threats that threaten citizens safety.
4. I believe that setting the suspects in jail with no bail will solve this problem of the treat attacks. It will eliminate the possibility of them making threats to civilians lives again.
5. I believe that the suspects will be put in jail, but that will not stop people for making terrorist treats. There will always be people who don’t follow the law and choose to outwardly defy that by making threats.

2. In the Netherlands, seven people were arrested on suspicion of planning to blow up shops in Amsterdam. Police got the tip from an anonymous caller in Belgium. All the shops were closed down on Thursday and are expected to stay closed on Friday. Further investigtion shows that one of the suspects is related to an man in Madrid who blew up a train in 2004.
3&4. In order to totally eradicate the potential danger of this problem, Police should investigate all the way until they can convict the sspects and put them away so that they are no longer a threat to society.
5. In the future, i see netherlands further investigating this suspected crime and in a short matter of time the suspets will be convicted and the threat will be forgotten.

The United States has warmly welcomed France back and France as informed people of a new alliance with Russia. France has also stated they are not going to join NATO’s nuclear planning committee saying that they would like to keep their nuclear program independent.
3. They have already begun the start to solve their problem! Re-joining NATO is a big step that will benefit many people.
4. I think that this is a great way to solve a problem! However, I also think that France should join NATO’s Nuclear Planning committee, this, could, in the future help the Nuclear threat and being a Big 5 country, might help influence other countries.
5. I think that this is will benefit many countries. Although, I am not so sure about Frances’ alliance with Russia, overall this is something to be happy about.

Germany’s government is federal republic, which is a federation of states with a republican form of government.
This article is mainly about a teenage boy who killed 15 people at his graduating high school before killing himself. He said that he did this because nobody ever noticed him. He felt lonely and decided to kill every one who has ever offended him. The police found about this reasons when inspecting his room. They went on his computer and saw a chat room where he also mention that he had a fire gun and that he was going to prove how “brave” he was.
With this issue it is clearly stated how teenagers have a low self-steam. Germany can help the families of the teenagers that were murder and do what they can to help them get through this. Psychologists now should study more in depth a teenager and if a family of school or even friends see a teenage acting in an extremely wrong way they should tell some one with experience so he/she could be controlled from doing something they’ll regret later in life. If the action of teenager is not controlled more of this massacres will occur. Many teenagers are impulsive and don’t think of their actions before doing them.

1. Italy has a republic form of government which means that the biggest power is in the citizens that are entitled to vote and has representatives that are chosen directly, or indirectly by them.
2.The CIA has been accused of kidnapping a terrorism suspect and imprisoning him in Egypt for four years where the prisoner said he had been tortured. The Italian government has thrown out classified information that is good evidence to the case. The Italian government denies having any part in the kidnapping and the CIA refuses to make any comment.
3. One option these countries might have, is to keep denying that they took any part in these cases at all.
4. Best way to solve this problem would be to find hard solid evidence that proves the CIA/Italy had nothing to do with these happenings.
5. I think this will be a very difficult case to solve and the CIA probably wont say anything and the US/Italy side will probably prevail over whoever is charging them

Europe:
1. Europe's government varies on what place you are in. All western and Central European countries are democracies of different kinds. A democracy is the political orientation of those who favor government by the people or by their elected representatives.
2. in this article i learned that Switzerland, one of the largest financial centers worldwide, is easing its banking secrecy. BUt the government also said that it would still "protect banking customers from 'unjustifies watching from abroad'.
3. it is not really a problem right now, but i think that by lessing the secrecy of the bank, there could be more chance for a spill in the system.
4. I feel that Europe should not lessen bank secrecy, becuase now there is more chance of fraud.
5. i predict that for now this could be a possitive outcome, but in furture years i think that there should be tighter security.

This article was about how ministers are meeting to solve the worst economic downturn in decades. They are saying that they have to work together in order to strengthen the economic problem and make things a little better. They are asking some to change their rules of governing markets, and most are in agreement to helping solve this issue. They have to pay a certain amount of money in order to vote, but Brazil, Russia, India, and China said they would not contribute extra cash unless they are given extra voting power. So far the US and Europe have the greater saying on what is going to be done.
3.They mentioned changing some of their governmental rules. They also have to contribute with solving this problem.
4.Well I agree with their solutions but think every country should have an equal vote although some are richer and bigger than others.

The people will no longer be able to hide their riches. This is due to the meeting with British Prime minister and their attempt to help with the economy and help strengthen it.

Switzerland was involved with this issue and their government is confederation but similar to a federal government which is one that divides the powers of government between the national government and local governments. Luxembourg was involved too and their government is constitutional monarchy which means it is ran by a king or queen.
3. Some options the nations can make are continue with what they are doing because they believe it's going to help the economy. And so far it have been a fascinating development since World War 2.
4. Some solutions they can use are what they are doing and continue with that so they can help the economy.

Europe: Like Taylor said Europe's government varies on what place you are in. The western and Central European countries are democracies of different kinds so a democracy is the political orientation of those who favor government by the people or by their elected representatives.
Summary: This Article is about the racism in Europe. In the article it states that Europe is often one of the first places people think of when racism is discussed and from the institutionalized racism, especially in colonial times, when racial beliefs were not considered something wrong, to recent times where the effects of neo-Nazism is still felt. It also states that Europe is a complex area with many cultures in a relatively small area of land that has seen many conflicts throughout history.
Choices / Options: I believe that Europe should get along just like most other countries do even though some of them still have racism.
Solutions: Europe should just like everyone for who they are and what race they are.
Resolutions: I believe Europe will resolve this problem.

1. Germany has a federal republic, which is a federation of states with a republican form of government. A federation is the central government.
2. Because of a recent shooting spree in Winnenden by a teenage boy, suddenly German people are considering making guns harder to obtain. The German people tend to think that massacres are simply an American phenomenon because we are "uncontrollable and it is very easy to obtain weapons", but because of this massacre that left seventy dead and eighty wounded, they are reminded that they are not completely protected from disturbed people such as this teenage boy. People always notice these things too late. Pretentious fools.
3. The only option that Germany has on this issue is to make guns harder to get; they can't give back the seventy that were lost because of thier false sense of security.
4. I think the best solution would be to lock up the kid who did it and make guns hard to get.
5. I can say that Germany will problably do what they "can" to keep this from happening, but because the Germans are so pretentious, I can't predict that it won't happen again.

I completely forgot about this, since it was put up on Thursday. Hope it still counts...
1) The United Kingdom is a country in Europe, and its form of government is a constitutional monarchy. This means that there is either or king or queen, and Parliament to secure the government.
2)http://media.www.gcsunade.com/media/storage/paper299/news/2009/03/13/Opinion/Obama.Hindering.Uk.Relationship-3670503.shtml
1) This article is about how President Obama is supposedly ruining our alliance with the Untied Kingdom. It mentions how Obama made mistakes, and disrespected the United Kingdom during the switch from President Bush and Obama to office. It first says that taking a statue of Winston Churchill out of the Oval office was disrespect towards the United Kingdom, since it was a gift from World War II. Secondly, it states how Visiting Canada instead of the U.K. for the first foreign meeting was a mistake. Lastly, it says how canceling a press conference with the U.K. in the last minute was untying our great alliance with the U.K. Overall, it speaks of how Obama is ruining our ties with the U.K., and how President Obama is destroying traditions between the two powerhouse countries.
3) The choices to solve this problem would be to number one, make up time with the U.K., and lose such 'disrespect towards them. You could also ignore the controversy, and simply state that the reasons told were not to disrespect their greatest ally, just a coincidence of bad timing.
4) I think the best solution is to keep doing what Obama is doing. Untying traditions isn't important enough for the U.S. at this moment, and it is all simply overreacting. Canceling one press conference will not change our alliance with our greatest standing partner. But then again, you could always play it safe, just to make sure nothing changes.
5) I predict that President Obama will keep moving one, and not worry about how little things will end ties between two of the greatest countries of the world. Things this small won't affect the U.K. that much to get rid of the U.S.

1) France is a well formed Republic. A Republic is a type of government that is not headed by a hereditary monarch such as a king or queen. In a Republic the public, or the citizens, have a voice in government and are able to choose how they want to be ruled. The head of state would be the president and is selected as the result of an election. The citizens have the most power in the republic because they have the total power to choose who will lead their nation and what rights they want and need.
2) http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/headline/world/6311905.html
France is undergoing an alcohol problem regarding children. Alcohol has always been a huge part of French traditions and the drinking laws must be changed in Europe according to France. In most western European countries, the drinking age is 16 to 18 years of age. France now wants the official drinking age to be 18 because the youth of France are "knocking it back in a serious way, often legally". Even young children are given alcohol in order to fall asleep and France is now taking serious action regarding this public issue.
3) France has many choices regarding this issue concerning alcohol abuse. Because more and more youngsters are beginning to drink, France has the right to propose a law that changes the age in which a person is allowed to drink. However because many people already drink in France, this might not be effective since parents sometimes encourage their children to drink. Also, France may choose to ignore this issue and stick with most of the European Union in keeping the drinking age to 16 to 18 years. Both of these options impact France greatly and there definitely will be some rebellions regarding the overall decision.
4) I believe that France must change their drinking age to atleast 18 years of age. France must do this because most young people begin drinking at a very young age their and that leads to health problems as they get older. By proposing a law that restricts underage drinking, the population of France will greatly benefit because there will be less health problems. However, if France chooses to let the public drink while being underage, then there will be less revolts and the situation in France will remain the same.
5) I predict that France will not propose a strict regulation on underage drinking. Drinking alcohol is a day to day routine for the French and taking away that right will cause an instant uproar. Many people begin to drink at a very young age there and might already be addicted. In addition, when France changes the age as to when a person can drink, they will have to explain to the European Union as to why they have decided to enforce this law. However, if France chooses to change the drinking age, the people of France will be healthier and live longer if they choose to abide by this law.

1. Ireland’s form of government is a republic and a parliamentary democracy. A republic is a type of government in which the people voted representatives vote on legislation. The people choose their representatives, through elections. A parliamentary democracy is where the legislature selects the government according to the strength of the party during elections. This also gives the parliament a double duty, because they have to think about both the government’s righteousness and also about the choice of the people. The current prime minister of Ireland is Gordon Brown, who became prime minister after Bertie Ahern stepped down. Northern Ireland, on the other hand, used to be a part of the United Kingdom and their form of government, which is also a parliamentary democracy. Then, Northern Ireland, according to the Good Friday Agreement, became a parliamentary democracy of its own, and their first prime minister was David Trimble, Protestant leader of the Ulster Unionist Party and 1998 Noble Peace Prize winner.
2. http://edition.cnn.com/2009/WORLD/europe/03/15/northern.ireland.violence.arrests
The terrorist problem in Ireland is the same as it is in the rest of the world. Just recently, a 48 year old police officer named Stephen Carroll was shot dead, and a few days before, two British soldiers were murdered. So far, the Irish police have five suspects, but the Continuity IRA, which is a militant group that wants Northern Ireland to still be a part of the United Kingdom, said that they were responsible for killing Carroll, while the Real IRA, another radical group, said that they killed the British soldiers. Northern Ireland is afraid that these killings could again send them into the sectarian violence that tore apart the region in 1998. Another party, called the Sinn Fein, which is a Catholic party that wants North Ireland to combine with The Republic of Ireland, called these attacks cruel, while the Ulster Union Party, who want North Ireland to stay with the United Kingdom, also called the attacks “wicked and murderous”, which means that these attacks are bringing the opposing parties together to end this violence.
3. In order to solve this problem, all the political parties in Northern Ireland will have to work together to find the people that are behind this crime. If they are able to do this, they will be able to find the answer much quicker.
4. Some solutions that Northern Ireland could adapt to end this problem is to increase the amount of soldiers in the region, and perhaps either liberate themselves, or decide whether to be with United Kingdom or join the Republic of Ireland, so this predicament can end. They also need to have better security for their soldiers and police officers.
5. I think that this mess will soon end. If the Northern Ireland police can identify and assure that the people they have arrested are the real culprits, they will definitely be able to find the source. Hopefully, they will also be able to find out how to end these pointless killings, but there will always be violence when a government is not able to make a decision for their province.

1. France combines three forms of government: Unitary, Semi-Presidential, and republic. Unitary governments have all three separations power governed as one unit. A semi-Presidential state operates with a president and a prime minister working together. A republic is a form of government where there is no single ruler or monarch. The president is Nicolas Sarkozy and the prime minister is François Fillon. The legislature includes the upper-house: the senate, and the lower house: National Assembly. France contains 260,558 sq. mi of land.
2. http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/headline/world/6311905.html
The French government is working to get a drinking prohibition for youths under the age of 18. The reason behind this is that studies show more and more youths are drinking an unhealthy amount of alcohol. They also want to ban overnight sales of liquor at gas stations and all-you-can drink contests. They will still allow wine tasting because it is extremely crucial for the wine companies.
3. The French government can ban all liquor for youths, ban some liquor, or just keep it how it is.
4. I think the best way to solve this problem is too immediately stop selling alcohol to youths and then slowly ban different types of liquor until they are left with nothing. I think if they do that they will end up with far less riots and to have to arrest or fine less people. But no matter what they should get rid of alcohol for youths until a specific age that is when most people have best tolerance and self control.
5. I predict that they will ban it quickly to keep things less complicated, but there will be riots and youths might try to sneak to another country to drink but I don’t think that will happen a lot.

You predicted that the pointless killings in northern irland will end soon, but i doubt that because of the sheer amount of hatred and difference amoung the people there.
1) Ireland is a republic and it basically means that the people have the voice in the government and that there are no queens or kings. The citizens choose the president, who will, lead the country and maintain rights.
2)http://www.cnn.com/2009/WORLD/europe/03/15/northern.ireland.violence.arrests/index.html. At North Caroline is a city called Massereene and a police man got shot. There have been arrests on five people so far and the reason why the terrorists did this was to get more ammo and guns. Then, some Britain soldiers and civilians were killed and wounded by other terrorists. The citizens believe this is happening due to the Good Friday Agreement and they are afraid of a same masaccre that happened in their town 36 years ago.
3)Well the choices are that North Ireland and Britain work together and find witnesses and other DNA evidence around the crime scene. So far, the situation is not bad and I don't think it's going to get worse because there is an estimate of only 300 people in this group.
4) I think that the military and police work together and find DNA evidence around the crime scene. If they do find evidence, then they should condemn the person and force him/her to tell them their plans and other accomplices.
5) I do not think that the situation is going to get worse because this group is barely new and they probably don't have a way to get new weapons or ammo now that the Britain soldiers and Ireland police are under more caution.

Commentation #1 on Valerie:
Great job Valerie! I think that this is a very serious issue for the public of these three European countries. As you have said "they are not able to hide their riches". I predict that this will create an uproar in the public because they have the right to put their money where they want. I believe that it is unfair for the governments to tell their people what they must do with their money because that gives the government the absolute right over their citizens' hard earned wealth. Overall this is a very serious issue and although this is occuring in order to help the economy, it is still morally wrong to take the money of others. Awesome work!

Awesome job! This is a huge deal to NATO because France is finally rejoining the organization. Several countries have waited for this to happen in order to create more international ties with France. However I find it odd that France does not want to be part of the nuclear planning committee. since they are a Big 5 nation. However France has always not been supportive in the proliferation of nuclear weapons and they do not want to be involved with the squabbles of other nations who are trying to obtain nuclear power. France rejoing NATO is a tremendous accomplishment for this organization and many interesting things are bound to happen in the future. Great Job!

Ireland's government is a parliamentary republic. They gave a President who is the official head of state for a seven year term. The Prime Minister is the real head of government.
Ireland once had a booming economy. However, it has now come to a skidding halt. Now, Ireland's young are leaving the country, seeking better opportunities. In the 1840s, there was a massive series of potato famines and the country has never fully recovered. The country is worried that its best young people are leaving the country.
Ireland can not do much to solve the problem. It all depends on the economy. If the economy continues to do poorly, then young people will continue to leave the country.
Some things that could help solve this problem are to create new jobs and more opportunities for young people. If they feel that they have something to aspire to and earn, then they will stay.
My prediction is that many people, especially young people, will continue to leave the country until Ireland's economy becomes stable again. Since many of the people emigrating from Ireland are young, they probably will come back to their homeland.

Most of Europe is a parliamentary democracy. This is where the country is a democracy, but also has a parliament. A democracy is government by the people and parliament is the highest law-making authority.
http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601100&sid=aNnb.490DVPw&refer=germany
As of March 13, European car sales plunged 18 percent in February due to the global recession. It was the sharpest February drop since the organization began recording data in 1990. Registrations decreased to 968,159 vehicles last month -- down from 1.19 million last year. In January, there was a 27 percent drop. The auto industry has definitely been affected by the slumping economy. Industry deliveries in eastern Europe fell 30 percent, Romania dropped 67 percent and Hungary declined 46 percent.
3. These nations don’t have too many choices of how to solve these problems during this hard time. They could maybe make some energy efficient, electric or hybrid cars, to attract customers that can’t constantly pay so much for gas. The other thing they can due is lower their prices, or increase the miles per gallon.
4. I think the best solution would be to produce more energy efficient cars, either electric or hybrid. Customers will be attracted to this, because they would have to spend less, or no money on gas.
5. I predict that there will not be too much of a change to the market right now. However, I think energy efficient cars, low prices, and a higher miles to the gallon will certainly help.

This article was about how even the deepest regions of Antarctica are being affected by global warming. The melting global warming caused to Antarctica may be responsible for up to twenty percent of the global sea-level rise. Antarctica does not have a form of government, but on December First, 1959, the Antarctic Treaty Summary was signed and it tells how the land may be used. It is up to us, the rest of the world, to help slow and eventually stop global warming. Antarctica is just a piece of ice, with little to no inhabitants. It can not defend itself against our harsh chemicals that our machines put out into the air. Until the entire world realizes how badly global warming is affecting the world. I don't think that global warming will be slowed anytime soon because i dont think that enough people care. Many people know about and accept global warming, yet the do little to help prevent it.

Young people in Ireland are having a tough time finding jobs due to the economy. So, in light of the situation, they are looking in other places rather than Ireland for work. The demand to study and work abroad has steadily grown since the 1990s.
In order to solve this problem, Ireland could do a number of things. First off, they could create some sort of economic stimulus, which creates jobs at home and prevents the young from leaving to find work elsewhere. Secondly, they could negotiate with other nations in order to establish a job switch program where young adults from one nation travel to the other to find work.
I think the best solution for this problem is for Ireland to work closely with other nations of this world in order to create a better oppurtunity to stimulate this terrible economy and get the world back on its feet once again.

After 43 Years, France to Rejoin NATO as Full Member
1. Introduce the nation's form of government: What form of government do they have (Democracy, Theocracy, Federal Republic, Socialist, Communist, etc)
and define what that term/form of government means? Any additional information on the country/organization/leaders of the country will count as additional
information :)
The nation involved in this situation is France.
2. Site and summarize your article in a paragraph making sure to focus on the problem at hand
In 1966 France pulled out of NATO. Now 43 years later France is looking to join this alliance again. President Nicolas Sarkozy says that considering that security conditions have changed drastically France’s strategy can not be stuck in the past. The president decision could heel the damaged relations between France and the United States.
3. What choice/options do these nations have to make to solve the problem?
France is making the right move in joining NATO because the security threats to the world are a serious problem and if France doesn’t have any friends things will go down hill quickly. However, France must do something to show the world that she is willing to be a part of NATO and will carry her weight. This could be sending troops into Afghanistan and Iraq to help the NATO troops stationed there. This might be the best solution because NATO might then be willing to assist France with the Congo
4. What solutions do you think could best resolve the. problem?
I think that France should send troops into Afghanistan and Iraq. I don’t mean anything drastic. Ten thousand troops should do it. This will show NATO that France is going to be a useful cog in the machine and will show the U.S. that France is indeed a friend.
5. What predictions do you have regarding mean he future of the situation/problem?
I predict that France will send troops into the war zone to prove that they are serious about working together with NATO.

1. France has a democracy which means that the people elect representatives to make the choices for what goes on within their society.
2. In this article, it talks about the effect of jobs lost over the course of 4 decades. The economy has been described has horrible and not seen as improving anytime soon. What this article is trying to explain, is that the bad economy is highly contributing to the high amount of jobs lost and therefore increase in poverty. 90,00 jobs were lost in january alone and the people are being highly affected b y it. Many french people have believed that they will end up on the street and becoming very very poor. Although this tragic event has caused many hardships for France, it has also caused a major decrease in violence and gangs.
4 and 5. I believe the major conflict-the economy, will take a very long time to sort out. In my opinion, if the economy tends to clear up, then the amount of poverty will vastly decrease. France needs to be able to understand WHY their economy is so bad and keep record of how they are going to try and resolve it. The people of France need to also be patient and understand that sometimes you must go backwards in order to succeed.

The article I read was about the head of an airbus location in Germany that actually spied on its employees, just to make sure that no wrongdoing was being done. They monitored over 9000 of the employees’ personal emails, making sure they weren’t breaking policy. I believe that this is a very extreme measure to go to see what is going on. The man got those orders from a former management, and just followed them, and soon after the incident, resigned. I think that this would not go on if people knew why they were doing what they were doing. Like in wars, the economic world listens to orders all the time, no matter what they can bring, and in some cases can be extremely drastic. I think that we must take action and try to stabilize our economic/ business world, starting with small steps like this.
Germany is a federal republic.

In this article I read, I noticed that this situation is like a mirror to our current economical situation here in the United States. In Switzerland, a company called Swiss Re, a huge business corporation, had planned to cut 10% of their workforce, or in proportion, approximately 1,200 jobs. This was due to a loss of 864 million Swiss franks, or $735 million American moneyz. It is a similar situation, and cannot be solved without the intense work and pay of the tax payers and citizens which will toss the debt to our future generations. It is something that cannot just be solved without TONS of loss, but sacrifices must be made in great numbers.

1. Europe, has a constitutional monarchy.
Putting these criminals in jail will show the Netherlands police force’s power and strength, and show that they will not accept threats.
4. I believe that setting the suspects in jail with no bail will solve this problem of the treat attacks. It will eliminate the possibility of them making threats to civilians lives again.
5. I believe that the suspects will be put in jail, but that will not stop people for making terrorist treats. There will always be people who don’t follow the law and choose to do what they want.

The United States is also related to this current event. The United States has a democracy. A democracy is a form of government in which the supreme power is vested in the people and exercised directly by them or by their elected agents under a free electoral system.
2. This article is about Europe's safety. Obama says that Europe faces a greater terror threat than the United States. Obama says that NATO members to take a greater role in the fight against the Taliban and Islamic insurgents. Obama wants NATO states to provide more military support. Also warned that Al Qaeda was still plotting attacks in the border regions of Afghanistan and Pakistan. And it keeps talking about how the United States wants alliances and such against the Al Qaeda.
3. I think that a choice that these countries have is to join Obama and do what he says which is to do more military things against the Al Qaeda. The other choice is that the European countries will not follow Obama and have the chance of being attacked by terrorists from the Taliban or Islamic insurgents.
4. As you know the saying "violence just leads to more violence" but the Al Qaeda will just resort to violence anyway. I think that one solution is that the European countries will join with Obama and will go against the Taliban causing much destruction and death while doing so but I guess its a few (1000) or events like the destruction of the Twin Towers.
5. I think that the countries will join Obama in his fight against the Taliban. However, I also think that the Taliban and the Al Qaeda will strike at Europe before Obama and the other countries can strike.

# Restore confidence, growth, and jobs;
# Repair the financial system to restore lending;
# Strengthen financial regulation to rebuild trust;
# Fund and reform our international financial institutions to overcome this crisis and prevent future ones
# Promote global trade and investment and reject protectionism, to underpin prosperity;
# Build an inclusive, green, and sustainable recovery.
3. I think that 1 of the options these countries have is to input the money into the world financial system and go as planned. The other option they have is to abort that plan and find another plan that they think is better than the current financial plan.
4. I think the best solution here is to go as they planned to do it which is to inject $1 trillion dollars into the world financial system. Then again, there might be another plan out there that is better than this plan, however, we need to do something quick to escape the recession so I think this is the best solution.

These officials have been complained about multiple times for torturing prisoners and not giving them their legal rights. Their interrogating methods were harsh and former Al Qaeda members weren’t protected by the Geneva Convention.
This judge needs to consider looking at this case. If there is enough evidence against the six officials then all of them can be put away and prisoners will be protected. I do think he will take it. If there are enough complaints they will have no defense.

World leaders pledged 1.1 trillion dollars in loans and guarantees to struggling countries. Moreover, the nations shared a common approach to reconstructing the world financial system which allowed them to compromise the solution. "The G-20 leaders also said that developing nations — hard-hit and long complaining of marginalization — would get a greater say in world economic affairs. They said they would renounce protectionism and pledged $250 billion in trade finance over the next two years — a key measure to help struggling developing countries." However, each country should be willing to give something up in order to make the solution better because it’s not only a financial reform for the but also for the rest of the nations.
4. Pledging money is an excellent solution if the nations can afford the amount they are saying they are going to put in because saying something and actually doing it are totally different things. Also, I think that having a regulatory czar is an excellent solution so we can know who is actually following regulations and who is not.
5. Well this first meeting shows that nations are capable of working together and finding possible solutions for problems, and this also makes me believe that we can do it again so I think we can fix the economic problem just as long as we are able to compromise and know what is beneficial to the world and not just ourselves.

1. Sri Lanka is a republic which is a representative democracy in which the people's elected representatives, not the people themselves, vote on legislation. The UK is a constitutional monarchy which is a system of government in which a monarch is guided by a constitution whereby his/her rights, duties, and responsibilities are spelled out in written law or by custom.
2. http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20090406/wl_uk_afp/britaindemosrilankarights;_ylt=AjWBIVyPDo_NoicH6tllIA90bBAF
This article is about around 1,000 protesters staging a rally outside parliament in London to go against alleged human rights abuses in Sri Lanka. The Tamil Tigers are facing a threatened final assault by government forces. President Mahinda Rajapakse said the military was close to wiping out the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam after decades of bitter fighting for an independent homeland. Rajapakse has rejected international calls for a truce which the government has argued would only let the rebels regroup. The United Nations and other foreign aid organizations say as many as 150,000 civilians may still be trapped in the war zone, although the Sri Lankan government insists the figure is less than half of that. At the height of their power in the mid-1990s, the Tigers controlled more than a third of Sri Lanka.
3. Choices they have to solve this problem are peaceful protesting and keep fighting. Fighting isn’t one of the best choices because violence shouldn’t be the solution to any problem. However, if they are being attacked there is no other choice than fight back.
4. Stressing a treating amongst the fighting sides in Sri Lanka would be one of the best solutions for the UN to propose. Although they can’t be too deeply involved, they also need to do something for the innocent citizens like set up a refuge for those affected by the fighting.
5. The government is focused on fighting thus creating an ominous foreshadow. I don’t think this problem can be solved until one of the sides gets what they want. The choices are: either the Tamil Tigers get their independence or the government gets rid of them.

1. France's goverment is republic. That is where the biggest power is in the citizens that are entitled to vote and has representatives that are chosen directly, or indirectly by them.
2. France is holding an election. The election seems to be driven by a desire for change. Change is something that apparently every candidate in France wants; the only thing they can agree on is that something is rotten in the state of France.
3. I beleve the options that France has for this issue is that the people can vote for the change they want. I think thats the only option the have becasue they can't change everyone's point of view.
4. I believe that the people of France can vote for whatever change they want becasue that is the safest way i think that change can come.
5. I think that this elections wil casue some riots but in the end the change with the most votes will win.

2. French President Nicolas Sarkozy announced that France would rejoin NATO’s military command, after pulling out in 1966 because of the east west Cold War.

1. italy is a republic meaning that the people pick the reprsentives .
2.http://edition.cnn.com/2009/WORLD/europe/03/25/italy.swtizerland.alps.border/index.html#cnnSTCText
in taly there is an issuewith the melting glaciers in the alps which may cause that italy and switzerland redraw their borders near the matterhorn. both countries seems to be able to coppurate well enough to agree to redraw the borders. the borders between both countries was set inn1861 yet occasionally it has been moddified. the only down fall for this redrawing of boredr is that some families may have to change citizationship
3. both countries have handles the situttion even though it may seem hetictic.the solution they have both agreed on is to redraw the borders inorder not to have probelms with one another.
4. i believe the choice both countries was smart. since it was the only fair thing to do since italy was losing land that was not fair .
5. i believe that italy will keep losing land since the area they are losing is ice and global warming is having its affects at the moment.

1. The forms of government involved in this article are those of the European Union which is an assembly of many European countries. This makes it a hybrid intergovernmental and supranational organization.
2. The article is about the civil rights violations in the European Union such as the Serb crackdown on the Albanians, and the plight of the Kurds whose leader has been captured and sentenced to death which has caused much conflict. There is also the crackdown on the Chechnyans by the Russians.
3. The possible outcomes of these issues are things such as NATO stepping in, which has happened in the past, or the violence continuing till the violence stops. Or there’s a slight possibility that they will come to an agreement on their problems
4. The solution I believe best for this is to let them come to an agreement on the issue but I doubt it will actually happen.
5. I assume that NATO will step in but it will only make the conflict worse as it has in the past.
