This article talks about the war between Israel and Gaza on the fourth day. Israel air strikes killed atleast ten people in Gaza. About 320 Palestinians died and some Israelis have been killed by rockets from Gaza. Most of the people who were killed were innocent women and children. Some people think that the attacks will stop as soon as the city of Hamas is destroyed. Israel's strongest ally at this point of time is the United States. The situation of the hospitals in Gaza is chaotic at this time and bodies keep piling into the full hospitals.
I believe that this war between Israel and Palestine is horrible. The current situation does not seen to be getting any better now and hopefull there will be peace among these two countries very soon. The war between Israel and Palestine has gone on long enough and the United Nations must use more of its power to control these two countries from blowing each other up. Thousands of innocent people have died for no cause and these countries are left in horrible conditions due to long years of war. Things seemed to settle down but have started up again. Day four of the current attacks has left both armies in bad conditions but to many people, it seems that Israel is winning.
I predict that this war between Israel and Palestine will not end very soon. The religious hatred that goes on between these two countries is very strong and has been going on for a long time. There is not much for the UN to do except for keeping peace. However I do greatly hope that the situation subdues and eventually gets better for the sake of the innocent people who are killed and injured. The hatred will continue until both countries realize that they do not need to fight and come to resolutions with words and not actions.

http://www.boston.com/news/world/middleeast/articles/2008/12/31/iraq_shoe_throwing_trial_postponed/
This article talks about how the journalist that threw the shoe at President Bush during a press conference, and how his trial was delayed by the court. This was done because of the U.S. invasion and occupation in Iraq. The court decided to review the charges to the man who threw the shoe, and stated that they would give U.S. troops 3 years to 'pack up and leave'.
I think that this article was rather comical and amusing, and when I watched the video, i cracked up. On the other hand, i think it was rather obnoxious of the journalist to throw his shoe at such an important guest in their country. Also, if he was that aggravated, throwing his shoe was a sure sign of disrespect.
I predict that the man that threw the shoe at President Bush will get his punishment, but since it was not extreme, his consequence will not be bad. I also predict that nothing like this will ever happen to President bush again, because he is no longer President.

this article is about the sixth day isreal was invading Gaza. For the first time, they killed a senior leader of the millitant islamic group while bombing structures in hamas. isreal's foreign minister is meeting with other countries, including france, thrying to premote a cease fire- particularly the rockets from gaza.
i find it almost funny- in a really sick sence of the word- that now, after the gaza strip has been destroyed and a world war has basically started, now isreal is looking for a way to stop the fighting, when it was them who started it. yes, palestines prime minister was firing rockets through the peace time, but they did not actually kill anyone- unlike the isralies. i hate to be pesemistic, but it seems more like isreal wanted a world war because they have more nuclear weapons then palestine and want an excuse to use them. they're just trying to befrend other countries and say they want peace so that if a war does let out, less people will attack istreal.
my prediction is that isreal will not solve anything. they've already diclined two ideas from frence. my other prediction is that this will develop into a world war and we will all be in trouble because our vurrent dumb president wants to side with isreal, even though everyone else in the entire world has basiclly already sided with palestine or decided to remain impartial. i'm sorry, bnut were all doomed^^

Citation: http://www.cnn.com/2008/WORLD/meast/12/31/gaza.israel/index.html
Summary: The Hamas, a Palestinian Sunni paramilitary and political party in Palestine has taken on a series of airstrikes in the Israeli territory break cease-fire treaties with each other. The 40 airstrikes consisted of a number of rockets into Israel killing about 400 Palestinians and four Israelis. The airstrikes have left the hundreds of families suffering in Gaza. In counter Israel has set out its military force and claims to target only Hamas militants but 20 to 30 percent of the causalities are civilians.
Analysis: These two regions have been in a constant battle over beliefs. Religion has caused them a great deal of war and turmoil in the “Holy Land” of Israel. Although this great civil war that has been tormenting the people of the area and has filled the locals with hate, the civil war is a great example of one group of people fighting for what they believe. IN the long run it may also be a perfect example for peace treaties and how two rival regions can come together and cooperate.
Prediction: This civil war may last many more decades or can end in a matter of months. It all depends on how open minded and how cooperative these two regions can be. The resolutions lie in the next generation of both regions. They could resolve what their previous generations have failed to accomplish in the past two-millennia.

i think you'r prediction is wrong. in iraq, throwing a shoe is like one of the worst things you can do. and the reason he threw it was to show his disrespect for bush and to show that he thinks bush is wrong, not to be obnoxious.

i agree, but i have to ask how you think new government could get along when noone has for the past two millenia, as you said yourself. also, don't you think it's more likely this will blow up then settlee down? still, good job and i agree.

this artuicle is about H5N1. the H5N1 virus has resurfaced in poultry in Hong Kong for the first time in six years. India, Bangladesh, Vietnam and mainland China, Egyot, Cambodia and Indonesia also experienced new outbreaks in December. a 16-year-old girl in Egypt and a 2-year-old girl have died. Hong Kong uses a vaccine that protects poultry against several flu subtypes but some scientists believe that the vaccine might not work for H5N1.
i think that it is freaky how we can get a virus and even die from a bird.
i think that as type goes by, we are going to be able to find a cure or at least treat the virus. hopefully before it spreads.

the US took the first step to retreat from Iraq by giving up the Green Zone they had in Baghdad, also other changes have been put to action. "Iraq's military is now the lead agency, with the U.S. military conducting raids only alongside the Iraqi army. Arrest warrants will be issued by Iraqi judges and the decision to detain will be made by Iraqi commanders. Iraq now controls its own airspace, including the Basra airport, which transferred from British to Iraqi control Thursday. About 15,000 prisoners will be transferred from U.S. to Iraqi control, with cases coming under review for release or continued detention at a pace of about 1,500 a month. Private security contractors for many U.S. officials and agencies no longer have immunity from criminal charges under Iraqi law." the article also states that by 2011 there will be US withdrawal.
Well i think that this is a big step and hopefully nothing goes wrong because more time in Iraq means more hard feelings between the two countries and also we've been there too long and even though we have supposedly changed thing i think we've done nothing except cause more chaos.
well there is no way of knowing how thing will turn out but there is no doubt that even with US troops out or in things aren't going to be to perfection in Iraq or the whole world

Omar P.,
You chose a very interesting article. There seems to be a lot of wars due to differences in religion. I agree with your analysis. However, I don't think they will cooperate and work this out any time soon. Great job! :]
Jenny M.,
That is so weird that a virus would resurface suddenly after so many years! I totally agree with your analysis and hopes your prediction will come true! Great job! :]

- I think it is very weird that after many years, the bird virus has come back. I also hope your prediction comes true, because we don't want this virus to spread towards any more countries.

- I agree with you, and many wars have come up concerning the fact of religious toleration. However, countries often don't cooperate, and I don't think that the Israelis and Palestinians will cooperate any time soon.

Commentation #1 on Jenny M.
Great Job Jenny! I totally agree with you that its horrible the way some people die. Many of those countries should be working on resolving the health care issues in their countries and hopefully the United Nations will take some immediate action on these troubling diseases.
Commentation #2 on Liz M.
Awesome Job Liz! I believe that it is great for the United States to help put out the turmoil in the Middle East. The only thing that troubles me is the way Palestine looks at us since we have sided with Israel. Palestine will have some grudge on the United States and might even take action. There is no telling where this will lead to.
