Summary: In Mambai, on the recent terrorist attacks, India suspects two senior leaders of an outlawed militant group of the three-day seige that killed 171 people. The names of the suspects are Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi and Yusuf Muzammil. The suspects are believed to be the masterminds on the bombings of all of the hotels. Officials are saying that it is just a precaution, but the U.S. and others are asking that Pakistan amp up security on terrorist cells; thus demonstrated when the airport security confiscated two four kilogram bombs, which were safely taken away and denotated. Yet, even more several bombs were found at more luxury hotels.

Analysis: I am really surprised that the whole of India has not gone on lockdown. There is so much terrorist activity, even a few suspects, that the country is not properly functioning right now.

Prediction: I think that, even if the government does all they can do, there will be more bombings and killings in Mumbai, or even in a completely different place just to throw them off. I do believe that, without their leaders, these bombings will eventually run themselves out, assuming that they are not caught. This is a very bleak outlook, but this is probably the worst that can happen.

http://www.upi.com/Top_News/2008/12/04/Rice_said_Pakistan_focused_on_threats/UPI-88531228429700/

In the following article, “Rice said Pakistan focused on threats”, explains the discussion between Condaleeza Rice and the president of Pakistan. They were in a meeting during the 63rd session of the General Assembly of the UN. According to Rice, she believes that Pakistan’s government is only focusing on terrorists threats. Rice attended the meeting right after another with India of discussing the Mumbai attacks. Her beliefs about Pakistan are that they are the ones who must take responsibility in responding to Pakistani territory even if they are non-state actors. In discussing the Mumbai attacks, her impression on Pakistani government was well committed and very focused in investigating the attacks. The reasonable discussion between India and Pakistan was “strain”, she says. Overall Condaleeza emphasizes that the U.S. will do whatever they can and her advice to the two countries is to go through capacity in fulfilling the investigation. Bring justice to perpetrate is all Condaleeza mainly concludes.

I agree with Condaleeza Rice in bringing justice of to the people that caused the Mumbai attacks. Pakistan and India had many tension among one another as Rice had mentioned also. I would also take into consideration in commenting Pakistan in being well equipped to the following issue of the causes and effects of the following Mumbai attacks.

I predict that India and Pakistan will do their best in discussing the terrorism threats. I feel that Rice will put all of her effort in having the U.S. participate about the Mumbai attacks. In addition I feel that all terrorism will be stopped if they continue to discuss it in the general assembly and come up with more resolutions.

Summer:
The October 2002 Bali Bombers that killed 202 people - 88 of them Austrailian tourists - in a nightclub bombing are schedualed to be executed in the near future. Their lawyers have been making requests for them to be beheaded instead of being shot till death because they claim it is less cruel and goes along better with their religous believes. They show now remorse to their crime and say that their deaths will be avenged. Inonesia has since sufferde three similar attacks, but foreign diplomats, analysts and authorities agree that they treat level has significantly decressed.

Anaylisis:
I beleive that the death penalty is wrong and needs to be revocted. People do not deserve to die just so that we can feel better about ourselves. It is a form of retaliation that is wrong and unmoral. I also beleive that it they are goning to follow through with this punishment that they victoms should be able to choose their own form of death. If beheading follows along with their religious believes then the government should fuffil their wish.

Prediction:
I belive the death penalty will still be used in many countries no matter what protesters do and that the two Bali Bombers will be executed. I do not beleive that they court will grant their wishes to be beheaded and that they will injustly shoot them to death. This is immoral and wrong and a stand should be made.

http://www.upi.com/Top_News/2008/12/04/India_2nd_man_helped_plan_attacks/UPI-85031228435702/

This article is about a second man helped plan attacks. Indian investigators said they had identified two Pakistanis as organizers of the deadly attack in Mumbai. Taiba has denied carrying out the Mumbai assault. Only one man surveyed the attacks, Ajmal Kasab. Ansari, another man involved in the attack, was arrested in Uttar Pradesh. Ten men stuck the commercial center. They also attacked the Taj Mahal and the Trident Oberoi. The Jewish community center also got attacked, killing six people.

I though the article was very sad. The Taj Mahal was the best place to go when you visit there. The Trident Oberoi was also the best place to go see. This has got to be hard for all the people who lived there. Those places were the most luxury hotels in all of Mumbai and now it is gone.

I think that this article will turn out to be a huge problem. Mumbai is not that big of a country so I think that they will team up with another country and start a huge war. It is going to be a huge mess. Some people say that Mumbai is a peaceful country, but that is just what I think.

Summary: this article is about a threat to India. India recieved a threat through an e-mail stating that there will be an attack in the capital, New Delhi by air. India sent extra security forces to New Delhi's airports and to airports aroung the capital. Tens of thousands Indias protesting and accusing the government of not protecting its citizens. India believes that the threat was made by Pakistan but Pakistan states that India has no proof.

Analysis:
i think that it was good and safe that India sent more forces to the airports. I think that
India should be sure and have proof that Pakistan made the threat before accusing them.

Prediction: i think that India's extra forces will help avoid the attack. i also think that by investigating more, India will find who made the threat.

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/middle_east/article5273366.ece

This article is about a riot in Israel. Some sttlers from Hebron occupied an apartment building without authorization and rumors were spread that they were going to be forced to leave so many residents revolted against Israeli soldiers. The soldiers used stun-gas to try to calm them down but it didnt work. The rebels slashed dozens of tires and broke car windows. They also vandalized a Muslim cemetary and spray-painted on a mosque "Death to the Arabs".

I believe that it was wrong of the settlers to drag the Muslims into this becauseit isnt their fault that they got kicked out of their homes.

i predict that this situation will calm down within a few weeks because these actions were just spur of the moment.

http://www.cnn.com/2008/HEALTH/12/04/zimbabwe.cholera.emergency/index.html

This article was about how Zimbabwe was asking for more help with hospitals and to help stop the deaths. They blamed it on poor water and sanitation supply, a collapsed health system and limited government capacity to help with the emergency. At least 565 people have been killed and more then 11,000 are sickened. They are figuring out what money they would use and planning to increase the security in the face of expected runs on banks. They are looking at the economy and how money would be a problem.

I believe the UN should try and help this problem some how, although many places are suffering from not having clean water and the deaths of people we should try to help slowly one place at a time. But I think it's a good idea to strengthen security.

I predict that this problem will not be resolved for a while because like I said before many other places in the world are suffering from the same problem, and people are going to try and work the fastest they can to solve this.

Pakistan Police Losing Terrorism Fight

This article talks about how the Police force in Pakistan is failing. Police are quitting because they do not want to be killed like so many others. Also, when police resign they like to announce it, to terrorist do not kill them. It also states the police get less money than the Taliban foot soldiers.

I think this is horrible that police earn less than the terrorist. This can deter them from actually policing. It is also sad that they are so afraid of the terrorists that they quit. I think the government needs to pay them more and take action to the terrorists.

I think that the U.S.A will be helping Pakistan in some way. I am pretty torn on this because I do not want the terrorist groups to be any larger, but I do not want our nation to give millions of dollars to them when we could be using it for the economy or helping our own police force.

http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/world/la-fg-settlers4-2008dec04,0,6932179,print.story

Summary: This article is about the possibility of the Israelite community giving up most of the land in West Bank to keep some settlement blocks around Jerusalem. This has led to problems with the thousands of people living in the areas known as Judae and Samaria. The citizens living there are unwilling to give away their land and riots are breaking out. It mentions that the elections in February of 2009 will be the basis of the further advancement of this issue. "A victory by Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni over right-wing opposition leader Benjamin Netanyahu would be regarded by many settlers as a step toward surrender." This issue has been the cause of new hostilities provided by the hilltop youths which have further led to problems with small Palestinian villages and Israelite armed forces.\

Analysis: The Palestine-Israel problem is a hard one to solve. I think that these actions are inappropriate. They can oppose government decisions, but going as far as terrorizing Palestinian villages and creating more hostility between countries that "hate" each other already is something that is unethical. If they stopped for a second and thought about what they were doing they would realize that this is affecting everyone including themselves.

Prediction: Unfortunately, I don't think we are close to finding solutions. Israel is finally willing to take action but the riots among their people will probably lead them to reconsider. This would bring us back to where we first started, on a blank page.

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/12/05/world/europe/05briefs-BOMBTREATYSI_BRF.html

Norway: Bomb Treaty Signed

This article is about the major disarmament conference that was held in Oslo. 94 countries signed a treaty that that commits them never to use, produce, sell or stockpile cluster bombs. These bombs are known to explode months or years after conflicts have ended. This is a huge deal for the topic of disarmament because it shows that the world is trying to efficiently resolve this dangerous problem. However the United States is the only country who did not sign this treaty that attended the conference.

I think that this is really great for the world. If all countries stop producing dangerous bombs then everyone will feel less threatened since not everybody has bombs. However I believe that it is not okay for the United States to not sign this treaty because they should show to the world that they can treat others with equality. The United States should also sign this treaty when other Big 5 countries are signing it in order to prove that they support the world's beliefs.

I predict that this treaty will do some good to the world. When nations come together like this, they become allies and support one another. However if the USA were to sign this treaty, they would make great allies and ties with other countries such as France. They should get more in agreement with other countries who posess an abundance of different types of bombs and weapons.

http://abcnews.go.com/International/story?id=6392188&page=1

This article is about India raising up their security on airports because they are scared that terrorist will attack them and have the same impact it had on the US on sep.11. They are very concern that they will attack one of their new airports. There have been threats these past days and as they go India puts more security in every airport.

If this attack happens in India it will be terrifying. These terrorist might not only bomb the place with regular weapons maybe this time they’ll use nuclear weapons. Which will damage their environment and, if it is strong enough it will damage important exportation factories around that area. This will damage their international business and will also affect many countries. A big percentage of objects that are sold around the world are made in India.

If the attack does happen many business in India and also around the world will be affected. The attack is predicted as 9/11 but is a new time and there are more advanced weapons. I think that India should ask for help to other countries to help prevent this attack. If this doesn’t occur every one will be affected and will take a lot of money to start all those business again.

Citation:
http://www.cnn.com/2008/US/12/04/us.missile.test/index.html

Summary:
The U.S. is trying to test a "workable" intercepting missile system to counter attack any viable threats to the nations safety. This will be the 13th time the pentagon has tried to run a realistic test of a missile threat. Some of the critics point out that previous shield attempts have failed and did not include decoys that might fluke the interceptor. This is test is set to take place in a window from 3 p.m. eastern time Friday December 5 to Tuesday December 9. With an upcoming president coming into office the pentagon would like to propose many systems that President-elect Barack Obama will choose. President-elect Barack Obama said that he will fully support a system that works.

Analysis:
I think it wise that pentagon is trying to get new systems or new missiles to be tested before the new president comes into office because the upcoming president, President-elect Barack Obama, proposed in a presidential debate back in September 26 that he will cut investments on unworkable missile defense systems. I believe that the upcoming president is a very open-minded person and will look into the different systems thoroughly to choose what is best for the country.

Prediction:
The issue of missile systems intercepting “viable threats” to nation’s security is going to occasionally pop-up due to the increase in terrorist activity. I believe if the test is at the 100 million dollar price limit then the workers back in the pentagon must be really sure on the system.

The global financial crisis really started to show its effects in the mid of 2007 and into 2008. Around the world stock markets have decreased, large financial institutions have fallen or been bought out, and governments in even the wealthiest nations have had to come up with rescue packages to bail out their financial systems. On the one hand many people are concerned that those responsible for the financial problems are the ones being bailed out, while on the other hand, a global financial meltdown will affect the livelihoods of almost everyone in an increasingly inter-connected world.

I think this is true that our world and country are going through a financial crisis that effects everyone even the wealthiest people. I also think that all we can do is save money because financially it doesn't look like it's going to get better overnight. This also effects special programs like food stamps, child support, and governmental organizations which in turn leaves more people homeless or lost.

As I said before the only soluton to this is to save money and hopefully lower prices, becuase we are not the only ones going through this so aare are foreign countries.

http://www.google.com/hostednews/afp/article/ALeqM5gw3vuo-_AmngaiEqMomB_JBbNySg

The attacks on Mumbai are now being called, “India’s 9/11”. Many have lost their lives, and many families are grieving for their loved ones. Indian police has now arrested two more men on the charge of supplying two of the terrorists with SIM cards. The men, Tousif Rahaman and Sheikh Muktar, allegedly bought around forty SIM cards, and gave two of them to the militants. Although one of the militants has confessed to being in Lashkar-e-Taiba, or LeT, a terrorist group currently housed in Pakistan, the Pakistani officials are still waiting for “concrete proof”. Officials have also discovered that one of the cell phone numbers traced back to Austria, and Vienna’s intelligence is looking into the matter. The terrorists have caused a lot of harm to India and their security, but India refuses to be weakened this easily.

I think that it is TERRIBLE of the terrorists to try to demean innocent people, and hold them hostage. If they do have something to say, they should take it up with the government, not the guiltless people. I think that xenophobia may also be a cause for this attack, because many of the hostages were American. When will people learn that it is better to live united than separated?

Although this event has jolted India, it will not weaken their strength. India will continue to look for the intelligence behind this horrific and well-organized crime, and will not rest until they have all been discovered. I hope that this problem will soon be solved, and there will be some peace for the victims’ families.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/12/06/AR2008120600819.html?hpid=topnews

Due to last weeks Mumbai attacks, Indian police began to investigate the possibility of local support groups because of the arrest of two new suspects in an eastern city of Calcutta and New Delhi. The men arrested were Tausif Rehman,28, and Mukhtar Ahmed Sheikh, 35. They bought cell phone cards using forged documents. Officials want to investigate whether gunman in Mumbai used these cards to make some calls during their attacks. 174 people were killed and 230 were injured. Police removed a bomb from a private hospital, and found a diary that named 10 people and their tasks in an attack. Fahim Ansari is in Indian custody for admitting being linked to a Pakistan-based outlawed militant group called Lashkar-i-Taiba.

I think that these attacks were devastating and unnecessary no matter what they were for. However, I am not sure what provoked them or who is responsible for the attacks.

It sounds like groups from Pakistan are responsible for the attacks on India. I think that this will cause friction between the two countries, especially since they have fought three wars in the past.

This article explains what happened in a riot in Israel. They went into an apartment building without permission and forced many people to leave their homes. Soldiers quickly used stung as to fight the riot, but it didn't work. Instead, the mob slashed car tired and broke car windows. They spray painted "Death to Arabs" on a mosque.

I think that this was wrong of the Israelis. Countering their problems should be peaceful, not violent. The riot they caused is just going to cause more conflict with the Arabs, and isn't necessary. It was also cruel to the arabs about saying 'death to arabs'.

I predict that their will be future problems with the Israelis and Arabs because if riots continue, only more violence will feed off of this current violence.

terrorism is a big issue, and worst of all state-sponsered terrorism. the current event in the world is the terrorists in India. many people belibe that the terrorists came from pakistan and they should make sure these terrorists should be punished instead of hiding in pakistan.

This article talks how the Somali pirates have been causing trouble in Africa and the UN says it's okay for countries to land air attacks on Somali bases. The pirates hijacked more than 40 vessels from Somalia and have hijacked a Saudi tanker carrying 100 million dollars of crude oil.

I think it's awful that the Somali pirates hijack vessels and I did not know that pirates still were in the seas because of advance technology these days. Pirates are becoming the new terrorists and I think the UN should prevent it before it happens.

I think it will take about five years for the UN to get rid of Somalian pirates, but I think that other criminal gruops will copy the actions of Somalian and hijack more vessels. I think the UN should improve the security in the seas because it will make pirates intimidated.

This article is about how Russia gave Lebanon ten fighter jets in an agreement to increase defense cooperation. the MiG29s are one of Russia's best fighter jets were included in Lebanese air force, which only has five Hawker Hunter jets and sixteen helicopters. This exchange was to strengthen the Russian influencein the Middle East to restore the lost with the collapse of the Soviet Union.

I believe this is good for the countries in the East because they can cooperate with one another. Since they are doing their selling of aircraft system to Iran despite American objections. This isn't so good because they are not listening to America.

I think that the UN will get involved and find a way to stop these exchanges between countries. America and Russia will soon talk and fix things about Iran and its jet planes.
