This article is about president George Bush honored three men who have been among his staunchest allies for his eight years in office. The Medal of Freedom is the highest civilian honor, that was awarded by Bush. The three men are British Prime Minister Tony Blair and Australian Prime Minister John Howard, and Latin America, Colombian President Alvaro Uribe.
I thought that the article was very interesting. Bush has in office for 8 years and now all of his allies are saying good bye to him.
I think this article will end up to be nothing. This article is just one of those article that you read and don’t want to see again. I think that Bush’s allies will miss him, and they are going to be Obama new allies.

My current event was about a guy who set himself on fire during the Gaza protests.
i learned that setting your self on fire is the best way to voice yourself, even if you die.

Summary: According to Palestinian surveors, the damages from Israel's assault on Hamas comes out to a whopping $1.4 billion, including fallen buildings, broken roads, pipes, and power lines. The Israeli army has claimed to bombing 2,500 Hamas-related places since December 27. Europe's four largest Palestinian fundraisers are planning a meeting this weekend to help out.
Analysis: This is exactly the kind of news that sends the world deeper into it's plunge. No one needs bombing of any kind right now, especially because of something like religion.
Prediction: I think that they will continue to bomb each other in a domino-like fashion, until they have both destroyed each other to the point of no return.

Biden meets with Iraqi leaders; bombings kill 10
Summary
This article talks about how Joe Biden visited Iraq and talked with several high ranking Iraqis. They discussed the plan of American Withdraw and Iraq’s uncertain future.
Analysis
I think it is smart of Biden to visit Iraq and meet with the leaders there. By doing this he is getting a good idea on how he should advise our new president. Iraq’s future is uncertain because the militant groups are still waging war on the fledgling government. Leaving Iraq might be a bad idea because they could get a chance to regroup but Afghanistan is a situation that also needs to be considered because the militants there are making a come back.
Prediction
I predict that we will hear more about the situation in Iraq.

http://www.cnn.com/2009/WORLD/asiapcf/01/14/india.slums/index.html
Summary: This article is about India razing the slums. In the article, it says that hundreds of New Delhi homes were razed to the ground. Alot of the people who had their homes destroyed don't qualify for relocation programs. Many of these people are now left homeless and have to stay on the rubble of their house.
Analysis: I thought the article was very sad because all those people just lost their homes in a matter of minutes. I think that the Indian Government were wrong to do this to those people. Overall, I thought that the Indian Government had just thrown them away.
Prediction: I think that most of the homeless people will remain like they are right now. However, if the Indian government decides to relocate all of them, then I think the people that were in the slums would be very grateful.

this article was about a woman who was stalked by a man who threw acid on her face. the acid blinded her and seriosly disfigured her face. the man has been sentenced to blinding by acid.
i think this article really showed different ways people are punished in different places around the world. i think that this punishment isnt necessarily cruel, but different than we are used to, we need to be able to understand that different places have different cultures.
i think that this article really brings up different cultures and ways of life around the world. it also shows the reasoning behind these different ways.

http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/world/la-fg-russia-strangle16-2009jan16,0,1912144.story
Summary: This article is about the a former Russian colonel named Yuri Budanov who killed an 18 year old woman in 2000. he was convicted of murder but was released 1 year and 3 months earlier for no evident reason. this trial was the first high profile case persecuting a Russia official for crimes agaist Chechen civilians.
Analysis: This case is evidently not fair. Yuri should be demanded to finish his sentence because he committed a crime and he has to pay for it. moreover, he stated that he killed the women out of rage and temporary insanity de to thinking that she was a sniper, however he took her from her house during a raid. she was at home so she couldnt have been involved with the raid and if he had the "smart" idea of getting the soldiers to bury her then he had to be thinking clearly to come up with that.
Prediction: FOr the world to spin, their has to be good so bad can exist. It is unfair that favoritism for a specific race exists and will exists forever because it travels through out the generations but we have to learn to cope with it to some degree. We can do everything in our power to "end" racism but people will always carry that hate within them.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/plane_in_river
This article is about when a plane crashed into the hudson river. this would have normally have been bad news, but luckily, all 155 passengers were evacuated safley as the plane slowly sunk. During takeoff, the plane hit a flock of birds which disabled the plane's engines. The worst injury was a woman that broke both of her legs. Otherwise, there was hypothermia and other minor injuries.
I think that this was indeed an act of terrorism and that the terrorists put the birds there on purpose this will happen again and the mayor will still say that the terrorists had nothing to do with it.

Summary: This article is explains global warming. The earth is warming up from scientific consensus that is human induced. This article states the warmth is heating up habitats all over the earth and these habitats are diminishing. Many people are agreeing that this is one of the greatest threats to the planet. Research shows that temperatures in various regions and increasing extremities in weather patterns.
Analysis: I believe that this is an important article because its letting the world knows about global warming.
Prediction: I don’t really think I can make a prediction about this article because we are the ones that caused this problem. If we can do start resolving the problem about global warming we can succeed.

January 16th, Friday, Israel's foreign minister will fly to Washington to finalize the U.S. promises on stopping the flow of arms. Palestinians proposed a true in which the Jewish state would withdraw troops in a week and the Gaza border crossings would immediately be open.
I think this whole "cooperation" thing is going better than everyone expected. I think its great. More talk, less violence.
I predict that shortly, many things will get worked out through communication. The Gaza strip problem should slowly diminish.

Okie Dokes so this article took place in athens greece and their terror group has said that they shot a twenty-one year old dude and this dude happens to be a Po-Po.the man was shot in the chest and i think near the butt and now is seriously injured. the Revolutionay Struggle was best known for firing some kind of grenade off at the U.S. embassy which was some where in the Athensabout two years ago and were claimed that its attacks was against a police riot and also murdered a teenage boy.
I'm pretty sure in this paragraph i tell my thoughts so um, well... i think this "epidemic" was hurt many innocent people that were not involved and this will possibly hurt their society even though it still might not that great anyways.
And finally in this paragraph i am suppose to predict what will happend next? ok so i think that the riot will still be going on and many people will still get hurt along the way and so the greek police must act fast or else they will have a unsafe society or i should say worse society. ok im done no more...
O crap... the top one is the one i did and i didnt put my name...

Summary:
This article was about a woman got acid thrown on her face by a 27 year-old jilted stalker. He said that he loved her and insisted that she loved him as well.
Analysis:
I think it is really a bit strange that a man stalked a person he liked and insisted that she liked him as well in court. I'm not exactly sure if they know each other, but I think that they should just live their own life.
Prediction:
Considering what the man did, I don't really think that he would give up on her. Which means that the girl will have to deal with him all her life.

The attacks on India on Nov. 26, 2008 were one of the worst terrorist attacks the country has ever faced. There were 176 innocent civilians brutally killed, and two major tourist hotels were severely burned. The good news is that all the terrorists that took part in this horrible attack have been captured, and one of the terrorists, Mohammed Ajmal Amir Iman, stated to the investigators all of the plans for the attack, and their main goal is thought to be to provoke India to launch military action at Pakistan. This is because of the fact that they are not happy with the peace talks between India and Pakistan. The Indian government, though, has withheld using force on Pakistan from these attacks, and they have supplied information to other countries about the evidence they have found against Pakistan, in order for them not to support them. This many be the only time that this will occur though, because if this happens again, the Indian citizens will most likely force the government to react harshly.
I think that it is very diplomatic of India not to attack Pakistan, but to make sure that other countries know that they are at fault nonetheless. I am also glad that India immediately set to action when these attacks occurred, and was determined to find out exactly who was behind this disaster. India acted with caution during these event, but they were not afraid to capture the culprits.
I think that eventually, Pakistan will realize how the terrorist group that resides in their country has harmed their neighbors, and react with much harshness and intensity. But then again, knowing Pakistan’s history, they will probably deny the claims all together.

The war between Israel and Palestine has not only affected the middle east, but Indonesia as well. A well known Synagogue is at risk of being destroyed and the Indonesians have had enough with the Israelis and Palestinians. They are losing patience and have stopped protecting Muslim holy places as a revolt. "We are Muslims. We are very angry," said Zaiton. All the Muslims are angry with Israel because it is not respecting the name of Islam. Indonesians believe that all Muslims in the world must stand united against the Israelis at this current situation.
I believe that this will have a negative effect on Israel because all the Muslims in Indonesia are going up against them. Israel, being predominantly Muslim, will suffer great humiliation because they are not honoring the name of Islam. This is also not a good thing for the United States because they might also become enemies of Indonesia since they are whole heartedly supporting Israel. However this may not happen because Indonesia might be scared or threatened by the United States. Overall, I believe that this will have a negative effect on the war in Gaza.
My prediction for this issue is that this will not be resolved anytime soon. Israel and Palestine will not resolve this situation because they fighting over generations of hatred. Indonesia will also cause more problems for this war and they may form some new enemies. Overall, I believe that this is not only a war on peace, but a war on religion. Indonesia is ony an example of how they view other countries. According to them, Israel is disgracing the name of Islam and is bringing shame upon al Muslims in the entire world.

Nice article Michelle! This is very interesting because someone showed their love for another by injuring them. What is our world coming to? This is such a horrible thing to happen and the woman must be suffering so much pain both emotionally and physically. I agree with you that the man will not stop stalking her and will torture her for the rest of her life. Good Job!
Commentation #2 on Noel H.
Awesome job Noel! This is great news not only for Israel, Palestine, and the United States, but for the entire world. I think it is great that the Palestinians are coming to a resolution through words and international cooperation rather than continue bombing Israel. This horrible war can finally be over and the Middle East will return to being somewhat peaceful. However, we must understand that Israel and Palestine will still posess a long engraved enimity toward each other for the long years to come. Nice Work!
Commentation #3 on Matthew Tran
Great Job Matthew! I also agree with you the it is horrible for the Indian government to just leave thousands of people homeless. However, they have been doing this for decades even though it has just caught our attention. The Indian government must take immediate action regarding this issue and something like this must never happen again. It is really nice to know the things that happen in other countries and be thankful that our government is not that unjust. Excellent work!

This article is about North Korea and weapons. Norh Korea has "weaponized" their stockpile of plutonium which complicates the end for nuclear weapons. North Korea threathen South Korea with the weapons. This threat was different from all the threats North Korea did because it came from the army. What the North Koreans had to say about the situation was that they were a nuclear weapons state and that you have to deal with us. Norht Koreans also said that they wouldnt consider dismantling their nuclear program until after the U.S normalized diplomatic relations.
i think that the North Koreans should think differently because we are not dealing with just anything, we are dealing with nuclear weapons!

This article talks about how the war between Gaza and Israel has ceased. Is mentions that the fighting is over, but the war might not be. Both countries have said that they could resume fighting at any time, and it is not official that the war hs stopped. Both sides have agreed to cease fighting.
I think that the two countries action to stop fighting is great, because then less casualties in those countries will occur. In addition, the fighting has been going on for 3 weeks, and a pause could mean a step into the end of a war.
I predict that this will end the war, seeing how stopping the fighting can't do anything else. On the other hand, this could just be a time to creating more war, so we can never know what will happen.

This article is about Kenya's excitement for their son Obama. All the people in Kenya have come together to celebrate the U.S. presidential inauguration of Barack Obama. Elections in Kenya always had problem with ethnicity, America has shown them that it isn't a huge problem. The inauguration has helped Kenya come together from different ethnic groups who were into the country's political violence lat year. For them the election of a black American president stands as a powerful symbol of unity on the continent. Barack Obama is like a role model for all of them.
I believe Barack Obama has made much impact in America and also around the world, to other countries. They can think of their own political rights. They have a leader that will allow them to think wisely on the rights of leaders.
I predict that every country would see a difference in choosing a leader for a country. Barack Obama is and icon to leadership and how ethnicity wouldn't matter. The way the leaders take charge will be more important and they way they will work in solving situations.

http://www.globalissues.org/article/84/conflicts-in-africa-introduction#AfricaHardlyAttractsMediaAttentionDespitePressingConcerns
Besides decades of conflict, death and tragedy, attending of issues in Africa has often been ignored, overlooked, or focused on limited aspects. Deeper conclusions, background and context has often been lacking, so ignoring what seems like constant images of starving children and families, news of billions in aid to Africa from generous donor countries, the background context and analysis is often missing.
I think this in the future will affect the USA because we import fruits and vegtables from foreign countries and if we don't attend to the diseases of Africa i coulc infect or foods and our future.
I personally think that we should help Africa's needs and not just look at them and help as least as possible. Becasuse we have time to help our families and communities so why not help a foregin family.

This article talked about a school in Pakistan that was destroyed by Taliban militants. It adds to the 183 schools that have been destroyed in the last six months. Maulana Fazlullah had threatened to kill more than four dozen government officials if they did not agree to come before him. Some militants even want to require that women wear veils and men wear beards and they should ban music and television.
I think that this is a very critical issue that needs to be solved. The schools will lose tons of money in damages and new school supplies. I think that it is stupid that so many people target children in order to get money and power and whatever else they want.
I predict that this will continue to happen and that many more schools will be destroyed. Then the children in Pakistan wont be able to have a future for themselves because they were not able to learn in school.

In this article, in iceland, the fisheries and agriculture ministry has dramatically increased how many whales a hunter is allowed to hunt over the next five years. Instead of last years, nine fin whales and 40 minke whales, this year the suggestion is 100 fin whales, 100 minke whales, and 50 sei whales. these recommendations were sent out by the Icelandic Marine Research Institute.
In my opinion, it is extremely cruel to kill whales no matter what number of whales it is. The murder of any innocent person or animal is cruel because they didnt do anything to deserve that and they have families just like people do. when you kill one whale, that whale may be amom or a dad or a child.
My prediction is that no ne will do anythying to protest this issuing and so many innocent whales will be killed for nothing. its sad
