Have you ever had to stand up for something you knew was right even though you feared what might happen if you did so?

Standing up for something you believe in is something we should all do as people. Even though those people fear of what may happen if they did stand up for what they believed in. I feel that people should not be afraid of standing alone because when you stand up and say something, it shows how you are a strong person who is capable of knowing what is right or wrong. When others see that they know that you are strong as a person and know what the right thing to do without worrying what others might say or think. As for myself, I have been in the similar situation by standing in for what I knew what was right and as I did, other began to think that they knew they did something wrong and were severely ashamed of themselves. One time there was this girl at my previous school and all people would do was make fun of the way she looked. The people would make her unhappy and she grew very upset. I was a witness to the situation and I knew I had to do something but yet something kept me back and it was my pride. I felt the urge in not wanting others to make fun of me as they would to the girl. Until one day I grew tired of the situation and felt that I had to finally stand up for her and be the bigger person and tell these cruel people to stop and leave her alone! Once I stood up, they people who were mean and cruel to her, they realized how hurtful it was and stopped. That day I was very proud of myself and knew I did something right without worrying of what others thought. In a relevance to the movie Rwanda, the man Paul had to save his family from dying and he had to stand up to the horrific soldier who yet threatened to kill his family and finally had the urge to give money in order to protect his family. This man stood up in for what he knew what was right and became a hero and did not have to worry about dying. Overall if you stand up for what you believe in you can make a difference to a particular situation in relation to mine or Rwanda. Someone once told to “Stand up for what you believe in, even if you are standing alone” (Anonymous).

this topic is so cliche and overrated. when people talk about standing up for what is right, they mean standing up FOR someone. people who stand up against others for someone else are kidding themselves, they feel proud because they are doing whats right but they are just adding to the problem. people have tried to stand up for when i can, thank you very much, stand up for myself, i simply choose not to. it frusturates me when people try to stand up for me, theyre saying that they dont think i can stand up for myself, that i need their help, or that i oviously dont like who or what i am. i know people have good intentions, they simply put them in the wrong place.

Standing up for something we believe in takes a lot of courage because you are faced with peer pressure. People expect you to be someone that they want you to be but do not realize the differences between each other. There are several times that I have been faced with this problem and I have tried to make the best of these troubling times. One problem I face everyday is probably expressing my opinions to others in front of a large crowd. It is important to show the way you feel about a particular topic or subject. Whenever people discuss something, there are always people who disagree with the way someone else feels about the topic. It is also important to stick with your opinion and battle it out till the end. You should never give up what you believe in or you will be left with nothing but guilt for not standing up for yourself. In conclusion, I would have to say that you should always stand up to what you believe is right even though you know that people will argue with you and think differently. This is what true courage is for the normal day to day human.

I have never really ahd that problem yet, so I don't have a first-person answer. But I do think that it is important for us to stand up for what we believe in. If we don't, then the world wouldn't be in our control. If we stand up for our rights, then more people will listen, and it will be easier for us to say what we believe in. Standing up for what we beleive in is what made the USA great, and it will make the world great also.

I believe that this problems isn't completely over rated but it is cliche. Some people don't have the capability of standing up for themselves and I think thats what true friends are for. But personally I really have never been afraid to stand up for what I believed in. To be afraid is to have fear and doubt for what you believe in. This applies to me with my personal religious belief. I am Atheist. I have no god to worship except those to who created me, my parents. I have always stood up for my believe no matter what people said. I always have stood up for this no matter how people looked at me with distaste. Truly, i think religion is interesting and teaches good morals but a person like me with strong moralistic influences have shape me into who I am. So, to answer the question in a brief but relevant manner. Yes I have stood up for something "I" knew was right but stood up for it with out fear because I on the other hand did not fear about the consequences.

Standing up for people is something that everyone can do and should do. It is vital for peacekeeping missions and for being able to react in society. I personally have never had to do that, because I never have conflicts with others over what is right. However, I would without a doubt, stand up for someone or something if I knew it was right and others thought not.

I believe that everyone should stand up for what is right, even if it is a hard dissicion. A lot of people lie, steal, do drugs, and dont care about there future. I had never been in that situation where I had to stand up for what is right, but when I do get in that situation, I will know what is the right thing to do.

Everybody should stand up for what they believe for, but for people like me and Omar, we do it more than we should. People often put us down for not believing in God but we have our reasons and people should respect our choice. When I stand up for my belief I am often scared because I am unsure what people will think of me or if they will treat me differntly. I often have to stick up for myslef when my dad pressures me about my religion. He doesnt believe that i have made the right choice but I just have to keep reminding him that it isnt his choice to make. I dont let people put me down for my religion and I make that very clear because I stick up for what i believe in.

Everyone should absolutely without-a-doubt stand up for what is right/ what they believe in. We have Constitutional rights to do this. I have definitely stood up for what was right even though I feared what would happen if I did so.

I can’t recall a time I had to defend something I thought was right and feared the consequences but I realize that the day will come when this is going to happen. When it does I hope that I will defend what I believe in. If not I would seriously loose my self respect.

I haven't had a time where I had to stand up for something but I'm sure the occassion will arise. But I believe standing up for something you believe in shows your charcter and loyalty and passion for something. Although it may not be the right way it still takes nerve to stand up against everyone and speak your voice. Because the most popular choice might not be the right choice and the right choice may not be the most popular choice.

Theres was a time when I did have to stand up for something that I believed in. Which was when these guys were making fun this girl and the principal came over because they were yelling at each other and when the principal asked what happened the three guys lied. Then after I stood up and said what happened when other people who were there didn't say or do anything. The principal then told them to stay away from the area where we were as they walked away I was brutally insulted although it hurt I knew it was for a good cause.

There hasn't really been a big problem that has occurred that I would have to stand up for what I believe in. I think its really brave that you stand up for what you believe in because they know what your ideas are. Like someone said "the right choice isn't always the popular choice, and the popular choice isn't always the right choice". That shows that stand up is always great and the fear should be pushed aside, so you can accomplish many things.

i have had to stand up for what i believe in soooo many times. Especially with church and stAndards that i need and want to have. People always argue that i have restricting standards. Just because they don't believe in the same stuff as me they doesn't give them a reason to critisize me. It really bugs the crap out of me when people make false accusations!

No, I haven't been through that situation, but i know that it is very important that you stay true to yourself. There is nothing more important that standing up for what you believe in no matter how many heads you turn or voices appear to oppose you. Everyone has their own opinion and you need to state yours! Fear is an emotion that is temporary but bottling up what you need to say stays there forever. You are going to spend your whole life wondering, "What if i would have said what i needed to? Could this have changed where i am right now?"... and the answer is YES!!! you need to speak out. don't let people take advantage of you because if they see that your to scared to say what you need to they'll use that against you. they will make choices for you and your going to be someone they push over. Speak your mind and don't let people shut you up because we have the freedom of speech for one reason, to USE it.

I've personally never had to stand up for what i believe in while being afraid of the result, but i think that it is a very important attribute for a person to have. If a person does not defend their opinion, they are just telling the wold that they do not trust themselves to make the right decision. I think it is great that our past leaders like Mahatma Gandhi and Martin Luther King Jr. defended their rights, even though they knew that the outcome would not be so good for them. They still protested and rallied to save others from the same subjugation they faced from others. I think that being a hero is not just a moment of glory, but a lifetime of satisfaction.

I think everyone had to stand up for something that he knew was right even though he feared what might happen so. For example, you would argue against parents sometimes cause their rules would be unfair or doing a protest even though you might get hurt.

I have had a time where I had to stand up for something I believed in. In this situation, I deserved a punishment that wasn't fair from my parents. I had come home past my curfew once, and was grounded. On the other hand, my brother had the same curfew as me, and was always home late. He received no punishment. In this case, i stood up to my parents about treating me unfairly, even if it meant more punishment. Doing this also made me vulnerable to my brother, but i got over it. All my brother could do was try to physically hurt me. I was scared of that, but now, I know not to be frightened by physical pain. "Pain is temporary, pride is forever."

I think everyone should stand up for whats right even though they think its wrong. Some people stood up to everyone for the right of prop nine. Everyone has theie own judgement in what they think is right, they just have to figure it out.

I think that everyone should stand up for what they think is right even if they are feared of what might happen. Personally i think that even if you think it is right and someone else doesn't think it is right then you should still have the same opinion. It is always to stand up for what you believe in because you can be right. Also you should not let other people make you change your mind.

to stand up for what you beleive in is a very amaricanized phrase, which is why we all do it. we live in the land of the free, where we can say what we want and do what we want as longh as we don't kill. in some countriesd, talking to your spouse about why you don't like the government can get you killed. i think just by living in america, everyone of us has stood up for what we beleive in. by voting and wearing our hair up and having women in government we are standing up for a betterworld, a world where everyone can stand up for what they beleive in, not just us.

Yes

When Marisa, my sister, couldn't stand up for herself back in middle school, i tended to intervene.

There was a bully that picked on her for no real reason, and so i decided to shut him up. I used words though, and some were harsh, but the jerk never bothered her again. I was so afraid but Misa was scared and i hate it when she's scared, so i told him he could go....... somewhere else if he wanted to talk about my sister in a hundred mile radius of me.

I'm glad i did it, not only because it stoped him, but because she learned from me how to defend herself.

when i know something is right, i go for it. i always stand up for what's right (though it's usualy only right for me^^), and when i do, everything else leaves me. i only realize what's wrong, and what should be happening- i don't fear for myself. especialy if it concerns my friends or anything i beleive in. i'd much rather be hurt in some way- mentaly of physicaly- then have anything i trust or beleive in hurt. i mean, i do the wrong things sometimes, everyone does, but i try to do what it right no matter the consiquences.

I have had to stand up for what i believe in many times. Even if you are scared to stand up for yourself and others, it will always be better to just do the right thing. You will feel much better afterward to know that you are chossing the right decisions.

standing up for what you believe in is something that should bre done without hesitation. For me, when something happens that doesnt please me, i always state myopinion and tell them what theyre doing is wrong no matter what. It doesnt matter to me whether the person is an adult or a child, no ne has the right to do something wrong and disrespectful. Now, im not saying that you should try and make everyone think the the same exact things that you do but at least make them realize that what theyre doing is wrong. Standing up for what you believe is right is the right thing to do, becasue if you don't the only thing you are doing is feeding the opressor and hurting the victim. Silence feeds the opressor.

i have many opportunities to stand up for what I believe in. It is important that we always do the right thing no matter what. It shows good character and makes you a better person. It is also important to have good friends who would stand up for you or stand behind you in your trials. So many more good things will come to us if we choose the right.
