How was Paul a true hero (remember to summarize the Rwandan conflict)?
Identify another location in the world where similar heroic acts would help alleviate human suffering?

Paul is a true hero in the Rwandan conflict by preventing his family in almost getting killed by the soilders who invade their hometown. The way he maintains his family's safety is by stalling the soilders and calling the general and asking him for help to have the troops stop the killings and etc. Paul is a very brave man who is smart and all he wants is peace within his own family and surroundings. When he stands up to the troops it hsows that he is capable in helping his family and it makes him a hero to his family. Being a hero is really hard to be when a lot of people out a lot of pressure on you. In Paul's situation, the community who stays within the hotel all rely on him ofr safety, especially his wife and kids. It is important to be the hero in a family because it shows that you are big and strong and can sustain leadership which equals POWER!
In relations to our world conflicts today, many of the people that are heros i believe are our U.S. military. I believe they are the heroes because all they want to bring is peace and safety to one's country. Overall all we want as an international community is PEACE and safety and the way we maintain those aspects is by the heros that we live upon, and if we keep them, our world and daily lives will be SECURE!

Paul is a true hero because he was willing to sacrifice himself for his family and other refugees who had no where to go. Also because even though he was Hutu and she was Tootsie he still cared for her and her family without treating her diffrent or downgrading and even treating her with even more respect. I also think he's a hero becasue he had the heart to cover for not only his famil but other including the local church and orphanages who had no where to go, he could've said no but he welcomed thte with open arms and coved for them against the Tootsie rebels.
I think heros like this are needed around the world to help better mankind and give a helping hand. But right now at this point in time I think and hope there are people like this in Gaza to help people who are being attacked.

Paul is a true hero simply because he put all others before himself. He puts himself in danger to protect STRANGERS. He cares for them. If you think about it, the similarity between all heroes of any kind is that they put someone else, or others, before themself. He made himself responsible for all of the Hutus and Tooties in his hotel. He snuck in many refugees and definitely could have been killed for that.
Similar heroic acts would help alleviate human suffering in the Congo.

Similar heroic acts would also help suffering in the Congo.
The Rwanda conflict caused Paul to go beyond what he believe in order to protect those who he loved. He took in the Tooties refugees into his hotel knowing that if he were to be discovered he could be killed along with all the other tooties rebels. he was willing to give up his life in order to save the lifes of others. He was willing to break rules for the safety of others. Like i said in my previous blog a true hero is never planned. Paul was the random verdict caught in between the conflict and decided to help out and do what he believed was right.
The current global issue in Gaza has upset many of the Iraeli have suffered from the hardships constant attacks have laid upon. Edwin in a way you are right the U.S. military is a hero to some people but one of the reason why the two groups are still fighting has to do with their very presences and intervention in the issue.

Paul was a true hero the the 1000 people that were helped in his hotel. After defining the true meaning of a hero, Paul does end up fitting all of these characteristics. By leading all these people to eventual safety, he is a hero. By saving his family's life, he is a hero. In many many ways and different aspects, Paul could be shown as a hero.
Right now, a similar crisis is occuring in Darfur. Just as in Rwanda, the genocide is going on without the world's knowledge. I believe we need to inform the nations of our world about this terrible event that is happening in Darfur.

Paul was a true hero in many ways. He sheltered over 1000 Tutsie and Hutu refugees in the hotal that he was managing. he protected his family and many of his people. Because of his heroic acts including bribing everything he owned away to the Hutu and other army attacks made on his hotel. The conflict was that th Hutu and Tutsie people were fighting for power. Even the president of Rwanda was murdered by Tutsie rebels. This is similar to the conflict in the neighboring country to Rwanda which is Uganda.

Paul is a true hero because he is brave and willing to risk his own life for his family and other refugees he did'nt even know. He helped the refugees get away from the rebels and stuff like that. By seeking help, Paul saved his people and other refugees. Seeking help is a good way to be a true hero even though you dont save them all by yourself you still save their lives. Paul is definately a true hero.

Rwanda in 1994 was the exact wrong place to be at the time. There was a huge fight for land and power between the two tribes, The Hutu and the Tutsi. Millions of people died just for being born into one tribe or another. Many people fled, many died, but many others were saved by caring individuals such as Paul. Paul is a true hero in so many different ways, it is surprising he has not won a Nobel Peace Prize. At the beginning of the conflict, he gave up his house as a small hiding place for his entire Tutsi neighborhood, even though he was Hutu. After the Tutsi in his home were discovered, he bribed the Hutu Army General into giving his neighbors their lives. After which, he took them all to the four-star hotel that he managed and turned it into arefugee camp, where there he housed over 1200 people, both Hutu and Tutsi. Time after time when the refugees were in danger, Paul would give more bribes for their lives. Finally, after he finally got the UN to come and rescue all of the people in his hotel, he rescued his two neices from a refugee camp and adopted them, because their parents had died. He did so many things to help strangers that he would be a hero no matter where you go.
There is much conflict similar to this crisis in many parts of the world. These places are Israel, Iraq, Iran, Afganistan, Congo, and Uganda. So much unrest in the world, and a few individuals like this can do so much for all of this misery.

Paul is a true hero in the movie because he was able to overcome his fear and be able to find different ways to save their lives. The Rwandan conflict was mainly between the Hutu and the Tutsie people, when one side rebelled to another. Paul risked their family and friends when he sent them to the hotel, when the Hutu's might know where the "cockroaches" were. He bribed a lot during the conflict, so the police could protect them. Paul was able to work intellectually so he can trick the general into helping them. He's bold moves and confidence led him to save more than thousands of the refugees.
A location in the world where similar heroic acts would help alleviate human suffering would be the conflict in Gaza and Israel.

Paul was a true hero because he never lost sight of his dream. He did everything possible in his power to save his family and his friends. Even when he had a chance to leave the fighting with his family he lied, because he had to, and sent them off while he would stay back with the people who couldn't go and told his family that it was because he couldn't leave them alone and he had to stay and try to save them.
Paul was a true hero because he and his wife wound up saving over one thousand refugees.
Another place with a similar problem is the Congo, and Darfur. They all have waring groups that are killing eachother without mercy.

Paul is a ture hero because he thought of others instead of thinking about himself. He would rather die helping others, than to leave safe with his family. He cares about his family and friends so much he would die to save them. That to me just is a true hero, a man who dosent think about himself and cares about others.
There is a lot of crisis in the world with this problem and all we can do is hope they have someone there like paul and hope they make it out safe.

Paul is a true hero because he did anyhting to his ability to keep refugee's safe knowing that he was putting himself in danger, when instead he could've seeked for a safe place with his family but stayed to help others. Paul is a hero because even though he knew that the possibilities to surving were very small he still kept faith and remained strong for his family. Another reason of how Paul is a hero is because he seeked for help and made risky, dangerous deals just to keep the people safe from the massacres. For example, the general threatend paul saying that they weren't going to go back for his family or the refugees but Paul didn't take "no" as an answer and made a deal which was to assure everyone that the general is innocent from causing massacres andvonly if the general would go back for the refugee's as well as his family there would be a deal. Another example is that paul traded money for food with the rebels to provide for the refugee's and his family knowing that the rebels were planning to murder them all sooner or later.

I think Paul Rwanda was a true hero because he done things beyond what is safe so that he could protect his family and people who were important to him. He done many things that could have been really dangerous, but he didn't care as long as its safe for the people he loved. At the end, everything turned out to be alright and they all went to a safe place.
I think a place in the world that would need heroic help would be Gaza. I think its Gaza because they have been attacked by Israel recently and the competition might still be going on.

Paul was a true hero because he did the right thing even when it was harmful or painful for himself. an example would be like when he had to leave his wife and children to stay back with the refuges so that they would not get killed, even though it put his life in serious danger. that was indeed a truely heroic act. he does this serveral times throughout the movie where he sacrifices his own needs for the needs of others, and because of this he is considered a hero.
a similar situation to the situation in rwanda is the things that are happening in Darfur. just like in Rwanda, the people in Darfur are also being masacred and have to live every day in fear. if those people had a hero just like paul, it would help them greatly.

Paul was a true hero because he saved many lives even though he had to give up his money and he knew what to do at situations. I think another area in the world that would need someone like Paul would be Afghanistan because terrorists are destroying the country.

"A hero is determined by their courage. They have to have the ability to do something that is right even though they know they have no fat chance of accomplishing it. Just the fact that they care and that they tried to make a difference makes them a hero. IN addition, being a hero means being someone that risks their life for the safety of others or to give them hope that their will be change." this is what i think a hero is and it's also what describes Paul. During the Hutu and Tutsi conflict, Paul's hotel was the safest place in the region where the massacre was going on. Instead of saying no and leaving the Tutsis behind to their fate he took them in and fed and sheltered them. He treated everyone as if they were family and tried to stay calm as if nothing were going on even though he was dying inside. He didn't want to show others that it was okay to lose faith in change; he wanted to show them that if something could be done they had to do something about it because sometimes, just sometimes their would be no help. Paul with his influence and his strength got help to evacuate the hotel and take those refugees to safety.
Unfortunately, there are not a lot of people like Paul who are willing to sacrifice their own safety for those who need it. there are not many people in the world who stand up for what they believe in and are selfless enough to worry for strangers who need that extra set of loving arms to wait for them openly and tell them that they are there to help. However, we NEED those people. People like Paul who aren't afraid to help those in need. Everywhere around the world, like in Darfur or in Iran or in places all around the world where one simple difference can lead to your death, there needs to be people who are willing to become dissentients just to do the right thing. We can't choose what we are born into but we can choose what we become.

Isn't it strange
That princes and kings,
And clowns that caper In sawdust rings,
And common people Like you and me
Are builders for eternity?
Each is given a bag of tools,
A shapeless mass, A book of rules;
And each must make - Ere life is flown -
A stumbling block Or a steppingstone.
Paul is what I think every hero should be. He was willing to put his own life in danger in order to protect the refugees. He was even willing to put his own life in danger when he went to get supplies. The Rwaandan tragedy was an act of hate and intolerance.
The Thutsi people felt that the Hutu had all the power, so they decided to protest to have equality. This did not fit well with the Hutu. They started to threaten the Thutsi and kill them. The Hutu began a mass extinction, in order to wipe out all the Thutsi, even the children, so even the next generatin would not survive. when this conflict ended, the Hutu had killed over a million Thutsi women, children, and men.
One place that these unfair massacres are taking place are Darfur. There is mass genocide taking place there. People are being brutally murdered, and the world doesn't even understand. They just sympathize, and then they continue on with their lives. I think that the world needs to know about these massacres, and we need to stop them.

Paul is a true hero because of what he did. for example, when the soldiers came intyo his house, he gave them money to save all them. he probably didnt know all the people there but he did it anyways! (two thumbs up for you sir!)secondly, he let all those people stay in the hotel while the rebels where killing everyone who wasnt a tutu. a true hero puts his life in dangers for oythers and thats what he did. when the hotel was running out of supplies, he went out where the killing was just to get more food. also, when UN came to take them, hew stayed back because he couldnt leave the other people to die like that. he was a true hero because he did hios best to keep ewveryone safe.
Mexico (woot woot) is in a need of help right now. there is sooooo many problems with the drug dealers and i think Mexico needs a "Paul".

Paul was a true hero to hundreds of Rwandans who were in mortal peril. He sacrificed his life many times in order to protect people who were complete strangers to him. In my opinion, that is what a true hero should be like. Paul put other peoples' lives before his own and protected all the people who cried out to him for help. He helped both the Tutsi and Hutu civilians even though they were fighting each other. He did not care about the cultural background of the person and helped them without any guilt or regret. He even went back for other civilians when he had the chance to escape and leave his country. He just could not leave others behind to die and said that he even though he knew that he would die, he would always help the people in need. In addition, he bribed several people and spent most of his money on saving the lives of people who were about to be killed.
There are similar situations throughout the world that relate to the Rwandan crisis. As we speak, the Israelis and the Palestinians are fighting an enormous battle in Gaza. Innocent people are dying for no cause and most of the people who were killed are women and children. The crisis in the Middle East can be compared to the Rwandan crisis because two different parties of people are fighting for peace in their countries. The ironic thing is that they are causing more war and destruction rather than peace and prosperity. Overall, the Rwandan Crisis and the crisis in Gaza could have been solved through peaceful words rather than war and death.

Paul was a true hero because he was a brave, unselfish, courageous man. He decided to put his life at risk to save the refugees at the hotel by all means, even if it meant death. He constantly fought for survival, and didn't stop trying to find a save place for all his refugees, although the chances of survival were slim. The Hutu targeted all Tutsi people, and began mass genocide in Rwanda. Over 1 million Tutsi were killed, and the Hutu even killed Tutsi children, to wipe out the next generation. It was Paul's determination and courageous acts to be different, and stand up against the overpowering Hutu. He saved over 1000 refugees, and his heroic acts should influence more people to help other countries with the same conflicts.
There are several countries who need heroic acts to alleviate human suffering. Two of them would be Congo and Darfur. Mass genocide has already began in those countries, and no one is making a heroic effort to stop this unjust killing.

Paul is a true hero because he put his family first and other people first before himself. He thought of other people's safety, and took in tootsies to keep them safe. He paid money to the soldiers to keep the tootsies and keep them safe. He kept them safe because people were killing each other outside the hotel. Paul even had the chance to leave his family and life a better life, but he chose to go back, and defend his family through the hard times. The Hutu people had a majority of power in the government, so the tootsies rebelled. Paul was able to give people hope that there was some "light", and after the fighting, there will be peace. He didn't let voilence take him down because he wanted to show everyone that he was tough, and his kids look up to him.
There are similar acts of hatred and fighting in Israel and the Middle East. This goes on everyday. Innocent people die everyday, getting killed by car bombs, getting their heads chopped off, etc.

Paul is a true hero because he put his family and friends before himself. He took in the tutsi refuges even though he was hutu. He even had to bribe the soliders in order to protect the refuges. He had a better chance to leave his family but he didn't. The Hutu people had power over everything and he still fought for peoples rights even though he could've been killed.
This is happaning in Gaza. Innocent people are betting killed all the time.

Paul is a true hero because he risked his life to save many people. He could have been moaning and groaning about the situation but instead he was positive and used his hotel as a sanctuary for lots of people when he could have used all the supplies for himself. He did all he could for his family even if it meant seperating himself from them. Also, he didnt try to kill Gregoir even though he was almost killed by the rebels because of him. In addition he saved many innocent Tootsie people when he could have bargained their lives for his and his family's.
I believe the situation in Gaza is similiar to this one because many people are dying over there.
Gabby R
Paul is a hero because he puts himself and his family in danger to help other people he has never met. Also he does anything to keep these people he has never met alive by giving money to military troops to protect the hotel. He tries to take in as many people as he can in to the hotel. He also could have left with his family however he stayed to help the people staying at the hotel. The tootsies rebelled against Hutu people because the Hutu people had the most power in the government. That is why this who conflict is happening.
I think the conflict in Gaza is similar to this and a heroic act would help there.

in hotel rwanda, the hutus were attempting to kill the tootsies. Paul was a hutu married to a tootsie, so he wanted to protect them. he used his hotel and his political influence to save friends, family, and even strangers. he risked his life multiple times, and lost his reputation and respect amoung his friends, and for that he is a true hero.
the problem is this is a movie. as much as i would like to find a respectable person who runs a four star hotel in dfarfur and ask them to save people from the intence tragedies that are occuring there, that wouldn't happen in real life. we gould ask a kind soul with politicle influence to help palestiniens on the gaza strip, but it wouldn't matter. instead of trusting anybody in the area, or axcepting bribes, they would probably take the money offored, then use explosives to blow the place up. the movie draws attention to many major issues, and shows what would be a great idea in such a doomed time, it doesn't work that way, and anyone trying to help would die in the process, a sacrifice so few would make.

Paul is a true hero because he saved lots of people. He put other people's lives before his own things. he saves the tootsi people hiding in his house by giving the hoot-hoot people money. He cared more about people than money. that is heroism.

paul showed true heroism in the rwanda crisis by not judging people by their actions, but by their situation. he protected and helped them and put others before himself.

Paul is a great hero because there was a lot of hate, violence and unjustice going on in the Congo, Although he had a lot of enemies and most importantly risks he had to take to try to help and save his people although they were not their family, with all this obstacles Paul did not give up but was always doing his best, doing a lot of sicrifises to help them. Although there were a lot of opportunities where he and his family could just go smewhere safe and leave everybody alse, ans although there was also sometimes where if he lied he could of been safe but in fact he did not he always did what was right no matter what and acted in justice, always looking up for others being a bulwark to them.
In Rwanda, the Tootsies and the Hutus are fighting over something, i wasn't quite sure what. Probably the other's right to live.
Paul is a true hero because even in the face of true danger, not only to himself, he chose to risk his life to protect those he didn't even know. He chose to stay and send his wife and kids on the bus, which i thought was very heroic, because he's so selfless and thoughtful. He didn't think it was fair for them to say, ok you you and you are free. The rest, sorry you're gonna die.
He truly is a true hero ;)

I feel that Paul is a true hero, because he put his life at risk for others, and ended up saving tons of lives. Instead of being selfish like many people would, he put others before him. Also, he was very smart in all that he did, ensuring the saftey of many of the refugees.
I think that if someone would be that heroic in parts of Africa where children are suffering starvation, and sickness', and for those who have no family or home, it was save many lives.

in Rwanda, there was so much death and murder and cruelty amongst the rwandan population. Almopst no one wanted to contradict anything because they were all scared of dying. However, paul was a true hero because he wasnt afraid of standing up for what is right. He risked his life for the well being of his family. he risked everything he had for the safety of his wife and children. He portrayed an attribute that is essential in everybody's life: selflessness. A true hgero is selfless yet selfish. In this case, paul was selfish in a posiyive way because he did everything for the well being of his own family, he made sure HIS family came out of the conflict safely. In rwanda, there was a genocide. the hutu tribe killed over 1 million tutsies. and even though paul was a member of the hutu tribe, he didnt believe in killing innocent peoplke so he went against his own people. Paul is a true hero.
In the U.S we need a new hero. We need someone who will alleviate us from the stress of a recession and from all the homeless people and people without jobs and everyone else who is struggling. it is to soon to tell whether he is a hero or not, but so far, i think Barack Obama is gonna be United states new hero.

Summary
After the Hutu president was killed by Tutsi rebels the peace in Rwanda shattered. Hutu soldiers killed Tutsi men, women and children even though they were not rebels and the death toll skyrocketed to around 500000. The final result was that the Tutsi rebels defeated the Hutu army.
Paul's Heroism
Paul is truly a great man. He probably never thought he would ever do what he did but when the time came to commit courageous acts he rose to the occasion and did what needed to be done. His actions saved over one thousand lives some of them young children that would never have a future if they'd died. An example of his heroism is when the Hutu soldiers wanted to kill his family and the members of his village. He did not abandon them to save his own life because he was Hutu and they were Tutsi, but instead bribed the soldiers to save them from an undeserving death. Another example of his heroism is that he accepted refugees to his hotel even though they can't pay and the hotel did not have any more room. He also paid the police to guard the hotel and protect the refugees to give him time to think of a way to save them all. He ultimately saved the refugees by using his contacts with the UN and relationship of the Hutu general in order to get them to leave Rwanda, but most of all in my opinion Paul is a hero because he never thought of abandoning the refugees. He even went as far as to stay behind when his family when he could have left. At the risk of repeating myself Paul is a great man. His story shows us how fortunate we are that America is not going through a civil war and that death is not lurking outside our doors waiting for the opportunity to sink its teeth into our throats.
Another Location
Another location where similar heroic acts would benefit the people there is Iraq because the Sunnis and Shiites are at odds and roadside bombs are an every day occurrence.

Hotel Rwanda
1. Ten facts
the Belgians use to control Rwanda, the Tutsis are the rebels, people thought the violence would be over because the UN was involved, the president was murdered by the Tutsi rebels about he agreed to peace, the presidents death caused more violence, the Hutus began to kill Tutsis even though they are not rebels, politics and money is power some would believe, lives can be bought as shown in the movie, the UN officials are ordered not to get involved, the Hutu general kept calling the Tutsis cockroaches, UN peace keepers were killed, the west abandoned Rwanda, Rwandans were not helped to leave Rwanda, The Red Cross claimed that the deaths in the Rwandans conflict could be as high as 5000000. It was the largest refugee situation in modern history.
